When we have a couple as excited about working with us as Jackie + Nick, it gives us even more motivation than usual to produce the best work possible. They put a lot of thought into the look of their day, and it showed in their ease with us, as well as in their playful fun factor. We joined them at a favorite farm that Jackie and her family enjoy visiting. We practically had the entire place to ourselves, so we took good advantage of it. We were all thrilled when the cloudy skies actually began to open up with brilliant light just before the Sun set over the hills behind us, adding that extra touch of something special for their smiling faces (and for Jackie’s lustrous hair). We’re so glad they chose us, and we can’t wait to join them for their summer wedding at The Garrison.
We knew almost immediately that we wanted to photograph Juliana + Elie’s wedding! Their vision for their photographic experience runs parallel with our own. Knowing that Juliana is a designer for fashionable clothing added an extra element of anticipation for our session, too. Their fashionable choices were perfect for what we had in mind, and they simply allowed us to create. LOVE THAT! We joined them for a particularly beautiful day on a farm where we could explore the barn, enjoy some playful privacy in a teepee, take walks in the pasture, enjoy some warm intimate moments in the corn field, and have some romantic relaxation on some bales of hay. We couldn’t have asked for a better day, as everything simply clicked. We’re even more eager to join them soon for their winter wedding at the Roosevelt Hotel!

Thank you so much! It was a little farm in the Hudson Valley that she’d found. Don’t recall the place, but we had a fantastic time wi the two of them. -

Hi! I love Juliana + Elie’s Engagement Session. Can you tell me where this shoot took place??
Our excitement over Michele + Matt’s upcoming first baby was easily excelled when she asked us to take photos of Baby Matt for his very first professional photos. We were delighted to see one of our favorite couples again. Baby Matt loves cuddling more than anything else in the world, and his mom & dad have plenty of love to give him. It’s been an amazing year for Michele + Matt, and it was a joy spending time with them once more.
More with Michele + Matt.
Were you in line anxiously waiting for the doors to open at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel for Hudson Valley Magazine’s annual Best of Hudson Valley Party? If so, then you were in the right place! This year’s Hudson Valley extravaganza featured a sampling of all the area has to offer by way of restaurants, shopping boutiques, spas and salons, pet stores, fun things to do, or fascinating people to meet. Whether you were interested in wine tasting or sampling ale, this party had it. If you wanted to get ideas for your best evening look, there were makeup studios available to take care of you. If you wanted to simply arrive and dance the night away, there was plenty of live music to keep you on the dance floor. The celebrities this year were the residents of the Hudson Valley, and Ulysses Photography was chosen once again to photograph the party and to photograph YOU as you arrived for our very own red carpet event. We had a great time seeing many long-time friends, as well as making new ones. 🙂
Tammy + Mark’s wedding at the NYIT de Seversky Mansion was truly special, filled not only with genuine emotion, but also incredibly rich with tradition. We were delighted to see them begin their day by seeing one another privately for Tammy’s bridal reveal. She was simply gorgeous, and Mark was clearly amazed. They were an adorable pair. After a Western style ceremony, Tammy changed into a beautiful hanbok and Mark changed into a robe & headdress for the paebaek ceremony. They looked like Asian royalty as they knelt before their parents at a table filled with a variety of food and rice wine. The paebaek concluded in style as Mark gave Tammy a piggyback ride around the entire ballroom as their guests laughed, clapped and wished them well. It was a truly memorable event. Another bonus for us was spending time with Evelyn + Michael once more. It’s a real honor to have been chosen by Tammy + Mark as photographers for their wedding!
Edited to add: By the way, I’m not absolutely certain, but I think in the final photo of this sample gallery, I may have captured a comet just above and to the left of the mansion. So excited about that! 🙂

Hiiii, Evelyn! From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! It was wonderful seeing you and Mike again! I hope you can tell just how crazy we were about spending the day with Tammy, Mark, and everyone on this very, very special day. There was so much joy and beauty all around that it was all too easy to enjoy ourselves. Hope you enjoyed yourselves on St. Maarten! It’s on our list of places to revisit again. 🙂 -

L-O-V-E! As always, amazing photos that exude the emotion of the day! LOVE!
Elissa had us smiling as soon as we arrived. Plus we love a girl in Badgley Mischka + Jimmy Choo. She looked incredible! Elissa + Brian enjoyed exactly the sort of wedding day they had dreamed about — a perfect November day full of sunshine, with breathtaking views of the Hudson River and valley, surrounded by the warmth and closeness of all their friends and family that meant the most to them. A basket of pashminas provided everyone with a little extra encouragement to brave the slight nip in the air as Elissa & Brian spoke their heartfelt handwritten vows to one another. Homemade wine made perfect favors for everyone to take home and reminisce on the day. We had a remarkable time with them, made even more special by the fact that we got to see two of our favorite couples again (Kimberly + Eric, as well as Annie + Jason) along with lots of familiar faces.

Hahahah! Elissa you are absolutely TOO MUCH! But that’s exactly the way we like you, so don’t ever change. 🙂 We’re over the moon at the fact that you’re so in love with your photos. The day contained so much heart, and we can’t tell you how much we enjoyed seeing your focus being on so many of the people there. I know everyone always hears that “it’s about the bride”. But you’re one of those rare individuals who really makes things about the people you love most in your life. Can’t wait to get a look at your album choices soon! -
Annie – do your thing girl but no matter how many friends you clone or steal or borrow… promise me I will ALWAYS be your bestest friend ever!
Ulysses and Jenni – We are having serious issues with weeding out which pictures to put in our album. Every time I think we’ve made our final decision… I can’t seem to let go of some of the others that weren’t chosen. Ahhh…what is a girl to do with so many great pictures!December 15, 2011 – 5:15 PM

Awww, Annie, thank you so much!! It really means a lot to have you come back and leave a comment here. We loved every minute with Elissa + Brian, from the morning fun and energy of seeing you girls get prepared to our final photo with them, where she took a flying leap into Brian’s arms on the couch. When you have this kind of long history with two people, it makes the day that much more enjoyable. It was so great seeing you and Jason again and FINALLY getting my own “T-time” with your little princess. 🙂
Annie, we LOVE your friends! Do whatever you have to do — beg, plead, borrow, steal some more friends. Clone them if you have to! We believe in you, Annie! LOL! But seriously, thanks for raving about us to others the way you do. Word of mouth referrals are our favorite means of finding more portrait & wedding clients. Hope to see you two again sometime soon. 🙂December 14, 2011 – 9:23 PM

U & J,
First of all, it was so great seeing you both and being able to hang out with you at another one of my friend’s weddings! Your photos retell every amazing part of Elissa and Brian’s day! They did such a great job of planning such a beautiful celebration and you guys captured each and every moment (even if it meant rolling around on the floor or whatever it took to get that perfect shot)! 🙂I’m a little upset…. I’m running out of single friends—– aaahhhhh!!!! What are we going to do!?!?!??December 14, 2011 – 9:04 PM

Oh man, Elissa, this is one best things I’ve read all day! Thank you SO MUCH for such incredible compliments and kind words. We had more fun with you and Brian than anyone probably has any right to have. LOL! But I think it’s partly because we’ve now known one another for so long, it gave a lot of meaning to see so many familiar faces there, and to know what your vows before everyone truly meant to one another. It all started and ended there for us throughout every phase of the day. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for allowing us to do what we love on the day of your wedding. We’re so happy to know you’re in love with your photos. 🙂 -
Although I was so sad for our fabulous honeymoon to be over, the one thing I was most excited to return home to see was the results of all of your incredible talents!! (Most computers don’t have Adobe Flash in Tanzania and most of the safari camps don’t have computers anyways). 🙂
Even before Brian and I were engaged, there was one thing we were certain of — that you two would be our wedding photographers! We have both been so lucky to have witnessed your work before our own big day, and this made our decision way too easy. Besides being the best photographers EVER!!!, you two are so much fun to be around. You have such a great energy and it is so contagious! These pictures are awesome!! You guys rock!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!November 27, 2011 – 3:34 AM
We were thrilled to start the day by being part of Brandon’s surprise for his bride. He arranged for us to begin coverage early at the hotel for the unveiling of a special gift he’d gotten for her. It set the tone for all the other surprises that would follow, including the blizzard that blanketed New York. The snow didn’t prevent Jill from having a perfect outdoor private Reveal for Brandon. The couple were then surprised and delighted as they saw all their favorite guests pouring in throughout the entire evening, many having braved the storm for several hours to join them in their celebration. The day started out with a few question marks, but ended in a spectacular evening of joyful fun and dancing. I could never have imagined myself saying these words, but it’s true for Jill + Brandon: A blizzard is the PERFECT DAY for a wedding! We just love these two and are so glad to have been a part of such an unrepeatable day.

Thank you, thank you to both Rachel AND Merry! Your comments are so appreciated. Everyone put in such a great effort to make this day as ideal as possible. When we put a spotlight — quite literally — on Jessica + Ashlin, we knew spectacular things would happen for this actress and playwright. They truly brought their sense of fun and love to the photos while shooting in and around the historic Paramount Theater. The fabulous editors of the BestHudsonValleyWedding.com bridal blog saw the same things we did and published some of their favorite photos, along with Ashlin’s narrative of the experience. Check out the article! And please leave your comments, as the editors (and the couples) love to see conversations and hear your feedback!

Nicole + Mike were engaged well before we started blogging about our couples. But because we’ve been so glad to keep close with them and their growing family over the years, we wanted to add a few of our favorites from our very first photo shoot with them. They love living on the lake, so we joined them on a beautiful day at a favorite place for some incredibly beautiful views and a ridiculously fun time. What an awesome adventure we’ve had with them from our very first meeting!

I don’t think we’ve ever seen a more radiantly happy bride than Ellen. What a joy to join this delightful couple for a day full of meaningful memories for everyone in attendance. Ellen loves fireflies, so they were seen in several little touches throughout the day. The ceremony was held on the gorgeous grounds of Mount St. Vincent College, where Ellen went to school. The castle and the amazing Hudson River view made a perfect backdrop for portraits afterwards. Enjoy these previews!

Wow Ulysses and Jenni. You helped make our wedding day perfect.
It was perhaps the most perfect autumn day of the year, with warm temperatures and clear skies. The day started with Katie looking luminous in her Reem Acra Grecian goddess dress, and Steve full of joy while waiting for his bride and spending time with his family who had surprised him and flown all the way from England. The day was special for us, too, because we also got to spend time with Jennie + Kevin and Katie + Chris — two more of our all-time favorite couples! To quote Katie, it was as if we had a reunion of “Ulysses Photography alumni” here, including so many other familiar friendly faces (all of whom we hope to see again in the future!). Seeing Katie + Steve on the floor dancing up a storm to “Copacabana” was the cherry on top of this incredible day.

Brooke + Dylan’s day started out with the threat of rain, which caused a little bit of anxiety. But when the time came to actually make the call for indoors or outdoors for the ceremony, Brooke’s instinct was on the same page with Dylan’s — OUTDOORS! Even though there were some light sprinkles at the time of the decision, we were so proud and happy to hear this (our readers know we love couples who simply GO FOR IT!) And wouldn’t you know it — once the ceremony started, the clouds parted, and we even saw rays of warm, welcoming sunshine peeking through the clouds. It was as if we’d special-ordered it just for them and their photos! We couldn’t have been happier for this awesome couple.

We often enjoy sending out a card or note to someone celebrating their wedding anniversary, but we’re not at all accustomed to receiving a card FROM someone for the same reason. That probably tells you a lot about the kind of people Laura + Chris are. They put such thought and heart into everything they do, and this particularly kind note is no exception.
Jenni & Ulysses, on our first wedding anniversary, Christopher and I spent time reflecting on last year and all of the elements which made July 17th so very special. With this reflection came memories of you both, and we felt compelled to say “thank you” once again for capturing our wedding in such a remarkable way. May all the beauty you bring to others through your work come back to you tenfold.
Our love, Laura & Chris.
We’re so glad to know them and to have been a part of their marvelous wedding day. More with Laura + Chris.
Working with people who love providing quality results and quality service just as much as we do is always invigorating and even inspiring. While photographing Rebekah + Harry’s wedding we had a chance to see just a sample of the beautifully handmade invitations by Kristy Rice, artist and owner of the fabulous design studio, Momental Designs. We’re in love with her custom creations. Kristy recently interviewed us to get our perspective on how we relate to our wedding clients to make their experience with us the very best possible.

That is a great article that everyone should read. The chemistry part rings so true to me, not only because it leads to amazing pictures, but because it leads to great memories with the photographers themselves. When I look at my pictures I not only think of the great day I had with my new husband and family and friends, but how wonderful it was to get to know you both.
The thrill of having others recognize the beauty and passion in your work never gets old. We’re so excited to see Style Me Pretty take notice of the fabulous photos from Marcia + Mike‘s wedding day. The day was a special combination of so many things we love to see in a wedding day — lots of personal details, a sense of chic styling, along with a couple that remains natural and true to themselves while leaving us room for plenty of fun and creativity. When I told Marcia she was going to be featured in Style Me Pretty, her excitement was contagious! ….
O.M.G. I just fist pumped at work.
AMAZING! SO exciting, Jenni!! I referred to them all the time while planning so it means even more.
Thanks so much for submitting this on our behalf. Our mothers are going to be elated!

As soon as we met Amanda + Tony, we knew their photos would excite us and give us plenty of reasons to cheer. While the anticipation was running high for Iris + Nick’s wedding day, neither of them felt under pressure at all from the normal stresses of a wedding day. Iris and her girls were each very excited to spend the morning getting hair and makeup done. Before we knew it, it was time for the ceremony at the beautiful Glen Island Harbour Club, with its breathtaking view of the harbor. Guests had come from far and wide, even as far away as China! Following a party that kept the party crowd on the dance floor, we enjoyed some time with Iris + Nick alone by the water for some of the most romantic portraits of the day. We’re so glad to have been able to spend time with this awesome couple again!

great shots!! cool couple..
When an actress and a playwright decide it’s time to wed, you know it’s going to be a story that will be remembered for a very, very long time to come. Each of them were excited and yet laid back at the same time. This was completely fitting because the ceremony took place in the heart of the very laid back but hip town of Woodstock, where love, peace, and friendship were definitely in the air. We couldn’t have been happier on this September day than to have joined this amazing and talented duo. We not only got to spend quality time with each of them separately and as a couple, but we also got to celebrate our own anniversary on this day with a little table for two at Onteora Mountain House, our very favorite Catskill venue. Their signature drink was a cool Dark ‘N Stormy, which helped refresh everyone during the humid but festive cocktail hour. We’re thrilled to have been a part of such a storybook day. We couldn’t have scripted it better ourselves!

Nikki + Jared‘s wedding day made for some incredibly warm and intimate photos despite the rain. In fact, the rain was an integral part of what made many of their photos so unique, which is probably one of the reasons the editors of Style Me Pretty fell in love with their photos. Their gorgeous day at the lovely Tarrytown House Estate will transport you to a time in days past, when a rainy stroll through a Westchester garden estate by the Hudson River was the most delightfully romantic way to spend time together.

The only thing that makes our hearts glow more than seeing a couples photos finished in a beautiful album is receiving a note expressing how much they enjoyed the experience with us. Kelly + Chris are two of our absolute favorites, not only because they are among New York’s finest members of the NYPD, but also because they’re refreshingly trusting people. They sent the following kind words:
Jenni and Ulysses, what can I say? You had me at ‘hello.’ The love you two have for each other is rivaled only by the love of your art. Everything you two captured on film is beautiful. I look at all of my pictures and feel such joy. I couldn’t have asked for better people and photographers. It is such an honor and pleasure to know you. I hope this relationship continues through all of life’s joys. We love you both and thank you for perfection on film! Love, Kelly & Chris
