New York Wedding Photographer – Ulysses Photography Blog » artistic. unobtrusive. fashionable. fun.

Although it was our first time meeting them face to face, it felt as if we’d known Amanda + William for quite some time. Meeting at the beach gave us a chance to watch a glorious sunset, followed by an equally majestic view of a thunderstorm headed out to sea. As we lazily walked along the shore, we were able to produce some beautiful images for them. A perfect evening. We can’t wait to photograph their winter wedding at Fox Hollow!

We couldn’t wait to finally meet Gemma, having recently photographed her ecstatic parents for Diana’s gorgeous maternity photos. She was the perfect little model, hardly uttering a single peep during the entire photo shoot. Could she be more adorable? We’re so glad her parents have invited us to photograph her first year with them, and we’re thrilled to watch her grow.

The editors of the marvelously inspirational bridal blog Borrowed & Bleu are just as smitten as we are over Brooke + Dylan’s fabulous photos. When you start off a session with the lovable faces of 450 pounds of Rottweilers, and then continue with the unique elements of amazing Hudson Valley scenery as their backdrop, you have all the elements in place for a photo session worth bragging about. Make sure you check out the article and photos!

Julie + Greg blew us away! They’re a pair of genuine rockstars (no.. really… Julie performed with her rock band at her own wedding!). They thought of so many little ways to queue everyone in on the things they love and what this all-important day was all about. Even though we saw details galore, prepared with thought and handmade with obvious love and attention, things never looked or felt frantic or crammed in at the last minute. But all of those things pale in comparison to the overwhelming joy, high-octane energy, and loving consideration that Julie + Greg brought for one another. Their expression of their feelings, not only in their heartfelt vows, but also in their surprise song performances for one another, spoke volumes to everyone about their intense devotion. After a joyous final song, everyone was treated to a farewell table of homemade beer with Julie + Greg’s own custom label, a perfect way to end a spectacular day! We’re so glad to have been there to photograph this amazing day for them.

  • Ulysses - Mary, the pleasure and the privilege was entirely ours. From the moment we arrived there at Onteora, we knew the experience was going to be an extraordinary one not only for us, but for each and every person in attendance that day. We were moved by how touched Julie was at having all the most important people in her lives so intimately involved in helping make the day successful. And we felt just as happy and excited upon seeing Greg’s carefree sense of humor at work. It was truly one of our all-time favorite events, and with good reason! You made us feel as part of the family, and we’re so grateful for that. Out of relationships like these grows our love for photography and showing the honest beauty of people and who they are within. Thank you for allowing us to do that for you, as well as for Julie & Greg. We hope to see everyone again in the future as the family grows. Warmly, UlyssesSeptember 1, 2011 – 9:56 AM

  • Mary Hamilton - Jenni and Ulysses,
Photography aside, we feel so very blessed to have crossed paths with both of you. Your photography is extraordinary. It is without a doubt reflective of the profound relationship you share as partners. I believe that when happiness and clarity come from within, it is only then that we can capture and experience it externally and subsequently share it with others. It is a gift to know you and to have had your presence and beautiful energy with us on this most memorable day. It is truly beyond articulation to say that you captured everyone’s spirit and energy, especially Julie’s and Greg’s authenticity both as individuals and as a remarkable couple. Thank you both for all that you are and for all that you do!!

    My warmest regards,
Mary Hamilton xxoo (Julie Van Ullen’s proud mom, Greg Van Ullen’s honored mother in law)August 31, 2011 – 11:39 AM

  • Ulysses - Julie, you have NO IDEA how glad it makes us to know how happy you are with your photos! Not only was a day that delivered on its promise to knock everyone’s socks off, but it was a tremendously emotional day all around. We loved seeing how much each of your parents celebrated with you, too! You could FEEL literally every emotive moment of the day. The music simply put the exclamation mark on the evening. It was such a privilege to FINALLY see you and your band perform! But above all else, thank you both for being so thoroughly swept up in the happiness of the day. Ultimately, nothing mattered to us more than that. Thank you so much for your kind words, Julie. They mean so much to us. But the truth is — YOU and Greg are the rock stars. We’re just happy to have been members of the audience. Hugs! 🙂August 29, 2011 – 11:35 PM

  • Julie Hamilton - Jenni and Ulysses –

I cannot put into words the importance of the photos you captured of our wedding. If there is someplace I can sing your praises where I have not, please tell me. No only is your photography artful and beautiful but your ability to capture the feelings and emotions of each part of the day is truly unbelievable. We cannot thank you enough for the visual storybook you have given us…we are so lucky to have found you!

We’re absolutely gushing over Stacey + Alen‘s wedding. Hurry to check out the story and the complete gallery of beautiful photos!

P.S. Don’t forget, SMP loves when their readers leave comments there (and so do we!). 🙂

Victoria + John’s wedding day finally arrived! You couldn’t have asked for a more excited household than hers as everyone helped her prepare for this most important of all days! Once her gorgeous gown and accessories were on, there was a collective “ohhhh” as everyone took in just how stunning she looked. Meanwhile, John was just as excited and ready to officially take their relationship to the next level, with his best man by his side keeping him laughing and as relaxed as possible. Next thing you know, it was time to get married! The day literally flew by, with all of their friends and family eager to celebrate and dance the night away with this awesome couple. We also enjoyed seeing a number of familiar faces there, Nikki + Jared being among them (in fact, they referred Victoria + John to us). It was a truly joyous day to be a part of, and for so many reasons!

We thrilled to be published again by Style Me Pretty! This time it was the rustic beauty of Rebekah + Harry’s wedding at Onteora Mountain House, combined with details that would make anyone fall head over heels, that caught the attention of the editors.

Rebekah added some descriptive words to the story there, and wrote to us: “This is so exciting!!! I may be a little biased, but I obviously think the photos are amazing and should be shared with the world! :)”

We’re in love with their day, too. Check out the story and photos. The thread is already hopping with comments,  so please leave a comment of your own for the happy couple or for us! We’ll try to get answers to any questions you might have. 🙂

Katherine + Kevin… Kat + Kev… no matter how their names are said, everyone knows you’re talking about two of the most wonderful people you’ll ever meet. Their wedding day was a true family affair, with Kat’s dad ready and waiting to greet us. We found Kat upstairs and filled with eager anticipation. We couldn’t wait to get her prepped and ready so she could make her way not even 1 mile down the street, where Kevin would be waiting for her at the altar. Kevin was at least equally as ready, spending just a few moments of private time in a quiet room to gather his thoughts before the start of the wedding. From that point on, the day was non-stop laughs, smiles, and celebration! We couldn’t be happier for this amazing couple. It was such an honor to be a part of their day.

As wedding photographers, we go head over heels when we hear back from our couples. That’s especially true when the feedback comes from a couple as unique and as trusting as Tom & Nicole are. We loved that they gave us access and freedom to show off just how beautiful a couple they are. Tom recently wrote a rave for us, and we just had to share it. Thank you so much, Tom + Nicole:

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Jenni and Ulysses. The comfort level we had knowing they were our photographers was truly invaluable. Letting people capture your most emotional moments can be an awkward experience, but with Jenni and Ulysses it was always carefree and easy. Our immediate family hit it off with them as well and felt the same comfort level, as they essentially felt more like friends than a vendor during the whole process.

As far as the photos, we couldn’t have asked for anything better. Their versatility really shined through the different kinds of shots, whether it be artsy or candid. I was really impressed at how every unique moment that stuck out in my head during the wedding, and especially on the dance floor, also wound up being captured perfectly in the photo collection. Their instinct of knowing where the priceless moments will be just in time to take the shot — that is truly something special.

I highly recommend Jenni & Ulysses to anyone who is looking for photographers who go that extra mile and produce photos that are far from cookie-cutter, pics that really burst with the great personalities of all your loved ones. And for anyone that may dislike taking photos, rest assure they’ll make it seem painless and an enjoyable experience.

We’re overjoyed for Nikki + Jared. They’re two of the warmest people we’ve photographed, and their wedding celebration was full of that same warmth and joy. Nikki’s gorgeous gown looked designed specifically for her, and she looked absolutely stunning. We loved seeing the connection she shared with Jared during the ceremony. Our photographic time with them was accompanied by soft rain. But the friendly staff at the Tarrytown House Estate provided nice large umbrellas for us, and we were able to walk in-between the raindrops for a beautiful private session with them. Immediately afterward, it was time to party with their family and friends! We were so glad to have been a part of their day.

The skies were clear, the red carpet was out, and Ulysses Photography was there as the official photographer for the festive occasion of Westchester Magazine’s annual Best of Westchester Party for 2011! This signature event is the one that’s waited for by residents and business owners alike. The beautiful Glen Island Harbour Club was packed with over 3,000 excited guests. Everyone was fashionably decked out for the ultimate party. If they weren’t sampling the food, drink, music & entertainment, hair & makeup demos, massages, or other area specialities, then they were lounging on the couches outdoors or otherwise enjoying the beautifully grand views of the harbor. With over 100 of the very best boutiques, shops, and services on offer (including Ulysses Photography as one of the select sponsors) this was a premium event not to be missed! If you didn’t get to make it this year, then start planning now to attend in 2012!

When Diana called to ask us about photographing her soon-to-be-born baby, we were thrilled enough (having known her after shooting her sister’s wedding). But when she asked us to photograph a maternity session for her, that gave us even more reason to jump up and down with excitement. She’s a beautiful person inside and out, and we were genuinely thrilled to show her off. Isn’t she the most gorgeous nine months you’ve ever seen? Baby Gemma is right around the corner! 😉

We’re feverishly working to catch everyone up on all the summer news, and we didn’t want to miss mentioning this one. Katie + Leo’s incredible wedding was spotted and published by the editors of Best Hudson Valley Wedding Ever because of its beautiful cultural elements and unique offbeat details. We loved photographing with these two and are so happy to see them made famous once again. Check out the story here, along with Katie’s own words about their awesome day! And please tell your friends by “recommending” or “liking” it! As always, we and the happy couple love hearing your comments, too. Enjoy!

Marcia + Michael (aka Marse + Mike) have a really special relationship that keeps them united through thick and thin. We had the privilege of being witness to just how strongly they are bonded, particularly when they had their private Reveal before their ceremony. Michael was beyond excited to see his bride, who looked absolutely magnificent as their eyes met. After a few moments of quiet alone time, we enjoyed exploring the grounds for a bit of fun, fashion, and even relaxation on a comfy couch (the heat index outdoors was 105 F, so the indoor respite was appreciated by all). Underneath a uniquely beautifully decorated chuppah with the graceful Hudson River as their backdrop, they said their vows. And then it was time for a joyous party in the fabulous, newly-remodeled spaces of The Garrison to celebrate with their friends, many of whom had traveled from San Francisco and other distant regions. It was an awesome day to be a part of, and we couldn’t be happier for them.

  • Ulysses - Awww, thank you, Jess! And you have NO IDEA how much the bride and her girls are going to enjoy hearing this. After this shot, we kidded around for the rest of the night, with them asking anytime the camera was pointed in their direction, “okay, no smile for this one, right? Fierce?” LOL 😀July 29, 2011 – 5:25 PM

  • jessica - I really love that shot with the bridesmaids. Such a pretty indoors shot! Hard to make indoors look good sometimes… and you pulled it off flawlessly. 🙂July 29, 2011 – 5:18 PM

We were already well acquainted with Tammy + Mark after photographing the wedding of Evelyn + Michael. But there’s nothing like getting to know our couples better by running off with just the two of them for a beautifully relaxing “Date Day” and photographs. Tammy + Mark are a perfect match for the way we love to photograph, with their gentle and humorous personalities. The smiley faces on their balloons seemed to echo the warmth and fun of their session. We enjoyed walking through a lovely vineyard with its uniquely outstanding views of the Hudson Valley. The butterfly-shaped ears of their Papillon, Dasher, were raised in excitement as if he knew this was a special day. We can’t wait for their wedding to arrive and look forward to joining them at the New York Institute of Technology’s beautiful De Seversky Mansion.

We’re thrilled beyond measure to see Katie & Chris’ gorgeous wedding published by Style Me Pretty. What a beautiful day we had with them! Katie’s attention to all of her pretty details, as well as the genuine love that she and Chris allowed to shine in front of the camera, combined with generous pockets of time with us, gave us ample opportunity to show off their day’s timelessness and loveliness. Their vision of classic beauty was a perfect fit for this premium bridal portal. We’re so excited that Katie got to share their story in her own words, too. If you’re looking for inspiration for your own wedding day or simply want to enjoy our happy news with us, please check out the article and accompanying photos. Feel free to leave a comment, too!

There were so many reasons to look forward to Naomi + Matt’s wedding, not the least of which is because we simply enjoy spending time with them and their families. Naomi was absolutely breathtaking in her open-backed gown with its elegant lace detailing. While Matt and all his closest friends gathered for the ketubah signing, Naomi was upstairs where all arriving guests could greet her and bestow their best wishes for the couple. Shortly before the ceremony, a joyous procession of loud male singing accompanied Matt upstairs as he went to see his bride for the first time. It was the most tender moment you could imagine as they finally embraced in front of the large celebratory crowd. There was a definite electricity in the air for this amazing couple. This was also a doubly happy time for us because in a sense this was like a reunion for us, as we’d recently photographed Matt’s brother’s wedding. What a remarkable privilege to be able to join everyone again to photograph yet another festive family occasion!

We were delighted to join with Jenn + Clario in the beautiful town of Ithaca for their wedding. Since they met at Cornell, this was the perfect location for their celebration. The fun began with a Day-Before photo session, with both of them wearing beautiful Indian garments perfectly suited for our walk near one of Ithaca’s picturesque waterfalls. We also visited a small portion of the expansive Cornell University campus, knowing that we’d have the next day to explore even further some of the couple’s favorite locations on the wedding day. We could tell how much history they shared together here. A highlight of the wedding day was when Clario pulled out his acoustic guitar and began playing a song he’d written especially for Jenn on their wedding day. While one of his groomsmen stood in the background to sing the lyrics, Jenn couldn’t help but join Clario while he played (guitar placed behind his head!), her eyes full of surprise and love. It was a truly festive occasion, with a lovely blending of Indian and Jewish traditions. We’re so glad to have shared such an important and joyous weekend with them.

We could not be happier after having met Natalie + Will. They first heard about us through mutual friends whose wedding we recently photographed, and she immediately got in contact with us. Because they’re so busy planning their wedding long-distance from Washington D.C., Natalie asked if we’d be willing to join them for their engagement photos there in the heart of Washington D.C., and our answer was “OF COURSE! We’d love to!” We loved that we clicked right away with them, and they totally “got” what it was that we wanted to create for them. With the sunlight setting over the Potomac River, the light coming through the marble columns of the Lincoln Memorial was just perfect! For Natalie + Will, it was a fun date night as we explored some of their favorite areas – the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, and around The Mall. What a fabulous couple, so warm and friendly. And we have even more reason to look forward to their 2012 wedding at the Rockleigh Country Club.
