We’re as much in love with Rebekah + Harry’s engagement photos as the couple themselves are. And we’re thrilled that the bridal blog, Fabulously Wed, is featuring photos from their fabulous session! They enjoyed seeing not only their unique take on the theme of Alice in Wonderland in the middle of NYC, but also the genuineness of the love on display in the photos. Check it out!

Stacey + Alen were quite literally in the clouds on their wedding day. We’ve really been looking forward to this one, partly because they’re such a unique couple. Mostly, we love the way they simply put complete trust in us to create beautiful images for them no matter the conditions. This trust was so important because it was pouring rain for nearly the entire day. But it turns out Stacey loves the rain just as much as we do. She was undeniably the very picture of beauty and elegance. Their big Rainy Day Reveal, in which they got to spend some time together before their ceremony, did not disappoint. We were thrilled to hear Stacey ask about going out into the rain (of course we said “YES!”). After she and Alen enjoyed a few kisses underneath a large umbrella, we all made our way to the wedding venue for their celebration. We loved Stacey + Alen’s concept of having their cocktail hour already in progress for their arriving guests, followed by the ceremony, and dinner immediately afterward. It was a different, yet relaxed way to enjoy the day with their friends. The mixture of Jewish, Ukrainian, and Hungarian heritage made for a lot of fun. What an incredible celebration! The images we were able to create for them are the reason we love doing this so much.

  • Ulysses - Thank you, Jessica! I can’t even tell you how happy we are with the way these turned out. When you have a couple that is upbeat and simply taken with the day, it makes it such a joy to focus on the photos and on the art behind the day.July 7, 2011 – 5:52 PM

  • jessica - Ohhh #17 is my favorite. A departure for you guys in feel and I like it! Fun wedding despite the rain-love that! I think you got our rain from the 2nd.July 7, 2011 – 5:31 PM

If Katie + Chris didn’t already realize just how much everyone loves and cares for them, they certainly know now. From the moment we arrived at Katie’s hotel room for her prep photos, the air was filled with friendship and love — love for us, too, as we knew several in her bridal party from a previous wedding we’d photographed. Katie wasn’t at all nervous about the day, but she was the epitome of effervescence, thrilled about every little detail happening around her. When Chris saw her walking down the aisle toward him, a huge smile flashed across his face, and the two of them became one as they said their vows. Immediately after the ceremony, we got to spend some private time with them at their reception venue’s beach with its lovely ocean view. Katie was completely in the fashion zone while we worked to keep up with all the beautiful looks she gave us. Her stylish pocketed Lazaro gown and gorgeous accessories completed her perfectly as she flirted with Chris, who enjoyed the playtime immensely. There were so many memorable points throughout the entire day, capped by her entire wedding party lighting sparklers for the happy couple at the end of the evening. We’re so happy for this special couple, and we’re so privileged that they chose us.

When you wish for beautiful things to happen during a couple’s engagement photos session, they usually do. And beautiful things definitely happened for Sora + Alex! When we arrived to take Brooke & Dylan’s photos, we were greeted by a very large and curious Rottweiler behind the fence. No big deal. We knew in advance they had a Rottweiler. What we didn’t realize was that they have THREE very large Rottweilers. The closer we got to them, the larger we realized they were. Just massive (even larger than average for this breed)! But after a couple of very loud, hot sniffs at us, they decided we were okay. Next thing you know, we had 450 lbs of dogs leaning on us, trying to sit on us, and just generally showing us how accepting they were of us. Just amazing, amazing dogs — and they LOVED having their photos taken! We would have taken them home with us if we could have found a way to fit them in our house. LOL! Despite our love for their Rotts, this session was really about Brooke & Dylan! We’d met them earlier as Brooke was a bridesmaid in the wedding of Melissa & Mark, another favorite of ours. So we already had a really great connection with them, which translated into some very, very cool moments during their session. What a beautiful couple. Their advance preparation for the session and genuine love for our photography made it a real joy to photograph them. We can’t wait for their autumn wedding at Onteora Mountain House.

We’re over-the-moon excited to have Jenn + Clario’s engagement session photos appreciated and published by the editors of the Best Hudson Valley Wedding Ever. We enjoyed reading Jenn’s narrative of how this incredibly sweet couple first met, and how they became a real couple. The genuine heart of their story is the very same quality you’ll experience when looking at their photos. Check out the article. And please feel free to take a moment to leave a comment! 🙂

Rebekah + Harry’s dream day had finally arrived. Harry had the widest, happiest smile you’d ever want to see as he walked around the corner of the bridal suite to see Rebekah for the first time. She looked simply amazing! You could literally feel her joyful anticipation as she turned to see Harry during their private Reveal. It was only the beginning of this incredibly beautiful day, with so many fleeting but heartfelt moments to capture. We loved seeing her invitations, programs and place cards, which were each decorated with a hand-painted design inspired by one of our own photos of the uniquely beautiful view from the Onteora Mountain House. We had such a wonderful time with them that we’d repeat every moment of the day with them if we could.

  • Ulysses - Rebekah, THANK YOU so much! We couldn’t wait to show you how wonderful your day looked through our eyes. Such an amazing day! We were so glad to be a part of it and hope we get to see you again sometime soon!July 2, 2011 – 8:51 AM

  • Rebekah Rubenstein - Ulysses and Jenni,
These are beyond amazing!!! Harry and I cannot wait to see the full set. If this preview is any indication, we will certainly be blown away. Thank you both for making our wedding day so special and for allowing everyone else to see how amazing it was as well.
    Hugs, Rebekah & HarryJune 29, 2011 – 8:31 PM

  • Carly Schwartz - Beautiful!!! I am so happy for both of you – I can’t wait to see the rest of the pictures! XOXOJune 29, 2011 – 3:54 PM

Katie + Leo are two incredibly unique people, and so was their wedding day. We loved seeing Katie’s TWO beautiful dresses. Her birdcage veil and her beautiful blend of dark purple lilies with jewels and black feathers added a wonderfully mysterious flavor to her day. The real show stoppers, however, were her gorgeous Christian Louboutin heels. After their custom embellishment, they were iridescent, looking as if they’d been dipped in morning dew. The mix of sunshine and threatening storm clouds only gave us even more opportunities to create amazing images for this fearless couple. Katie had lots of family visiting from Ireland, while Leo’s family are from Brazil, so it was also a day filled with rich cultural heritage including Irish step dancing by two of the very best on the planet (not yet even teenagers!). It was an awesome day for everyone, and we’re so glad to have been a part of it.

  • Ulysses - Katie, you are soooo welcome! Your wedding day was a real feast for the eyes, from start to finish. And you can probably tell just how much our eyes loved everything we saw… all your details, all the interaction between your friends. Everyone was really there for you. Most of all, you and Leo simply trusted us. And that means so much to producing beautiful work. So THANK YOU for that trust! We so glad you’re in love with your photos! That’s the way it should be. 🙂July 6, 2011 – 8:31 PM

  • Katie & Leo - Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!! Jenni and Ulysses you guys are the BEST!! The photos are more beautiful can we could even imagine! We cannot thank you guys enough for everything!! And Monica thank you so much for my beautiful flowers I absolutely LOVED my bouquet it was so perfect for me!July 6, 2011 – 7:48 PM

  • Ulysses - Thanks so much, Monica! They gave us complete freedom and were up for anything we wanted. Having that kind of time with our couples is so valuable. And THANK YOU for designing such a dramatic a bouquet for her! Her floral arrangements were gorgeous. 🙂June 29, 2011 – 8:40 AM

  • Monica - Your work is fabulous!! These pictures have me in total amazement!! You captured Katie & Leo like no other photographer could! Stunning, gorgeous & priceless!!June 28, 2011 – 8:15 PM

We love sharing news about being published! When we put as much heart into a shoot as we did with Stacey + Alen’s chic session at Coney Island, we want to share it with everyone. We’re delighted to see that the bridal blog, Merci New York, is just as in love with their photos as we are. This inspirational site is tailored to provide chic and stylish inspiration for the busy city bride. To see why they were so attracted to Stacey + Alen‘s day of summer fun, have a look at the article and accompanying photos!

We can’t even tell you how absolutely jazzed we are about being chosen as Elissa + Brian’s photographers. We have such a history with them that we felt like part of their family since our earliest discussions with them about their wedding (Elissa was a bridesmaid in Annie & Jason’s wedding and has attended at least a few others we’ve photographed, and Brian is brother to Eric, whose wedding with Kimberly we photographed). When you see listen to them together, you can easily tell just how amazingly well matched they are in their interests, tastes, and in their love for one another. We know Elissa + Brian’s wedding at The Garrison is going to be truly special for us, as well as for all their family and friends.

We loved hanging out with Katie + Chris in NYC’s scenic Central Park. Katie had previously seen us at no less than two of her friends’ weddings, so we had great chemistry with the two of them nearly instantly. But what really thrilled us was Katie + Chris’ constantly entertaining interaction with one another. It didn’t matter who or what was happening around them. And it didn’t even matter that we got completely drenched in an afternoon downpour. We each laughed at the spontaneity of it all while Katie simply put on her rain boots for more photos and Chris kept a loving arm around her. A beautiful afternoon in NYC.

Katie & Steve brought not only their love for one another to their photo session, but they also came with Marley, their beautiful golden retriever. There was so much to love about this beautiful couple and their early springtime shoot. With the crocuses in bloom, gorgeous light, and this awesome threesome (Marley wouldn’t allow us to forget her larger-than-life personality), it was a perfect day for them to enjoy their date day together. We can’t wait to join them for their wedding day at the Venetian Yacht Club.

We’re delighted to see Katie & Steve’s engagement photos published by our friends at the beautifully inspiring bridal blog, Borrowed & Bleu. Looks like they’re as much a fan of this awesome couple, their sweet golden retriever, Marley, and springtime crocuses as we are. LOVE.

“A beautiful actress and dashing playwright first laid eyes on one another in the theater” — it sounds like the beginning of a wonderful story, doesn’t it? Well, it was exactly that for each of us. We had a ridiculously enjoyable time with Jessica & Ashlin (she really IS an actress, and he really IS a playwright). They pretty much gave us cart blanche throughout our time with them. Putting them on stage to share a spotlight, both literally and figuratively, seemed the ideal way to get their photo shoot, and all we had to do afterward was watch them go! It was such a joy to spend this valuable time with them, and we’re especially eager for their approaching autumn wedding day at Onteora Mountain House.

When Stacey was little, she seems to remember thinking to herself: “Someday I’ll need an amusement park.” It was like Alen came in on a white merry-go-round horse and built a park just for her! He’s been working in construction on Coney Island and Luna Park, so it was the perfect place to go with this chic couple from Brooklyn. Since we had the entire place to ourselves, sometimes they could simply be kids again and reveal their whimsical sense of humor, and other times we saw their warm romantic side. Either way, it was their simple enjoyment of being together that made this session such a joy to photograph. We had a beautiful evening with them and can’t wait for their wedding at The Eagle’s Nest.

  • Ulysses - Thank you so much, Erika! It’s obvious how much fun we had with this couple, isn’t it? They extended their session with us so we could play to our hearts’ content. 🙂June 16, 2011 – 12:23 PM

  • Erika {Borrowed & Bleu} - How fun! I love the shot in the teacups!June 16, 2011 – 11:18 AM

We’re very excited to see Brandy + Paul’s gorgeous wedding and photos published by the excellent Best Hudson Valley Wedding Ever bridal blog. She had lots of beautiful DIY details that added to the fun spirit of the day. They simply couldn’t go wrong with the lush beauty of Catlin Gardens. We loved every moment with them and are so happy to see their wedding featured.

In many ways photography is quite literally a form of tunnel vision. From a physical standpoint, you have your eye fixed to a viewfinder while looking through a dark tube whose glass optics help bring focus to the world beyond. Your vision gives meaning and context to the images you make. But vision and creativity notwithstanding, your photos are still only a very personal slice of the world around you.

When I first began taking photography seriously, I knew so much less about myself, let alone about photography. At the time, I thought I knew what words like “inspiration” and “creativity” meant, but I really didn’t. So I understand that when you’re new at the craft of photography it’s all too easy to look to your own peers for ideas, inspiration, and concepts. After all, they see the world in a way you wish you could see it. But as time goes along, you begin to realize that there’s such a wide world of experience – artistically and otherwise – outside your own field of expertise. And there are artists whose unique vision and technique can bring a much broader mindset to the table, resulting in a much richer experience for the artist even if he chooses to stay within the realm of a given specialty. That’s why I enjoyed seeing the productions of the following two artists. I’ll probably never have the chance to attempt the locations or the approach that they did here; after all, we can’t all travel to or live near a volcano or on a mountain slope (or can we?). But their imagery of our amazing Planet Earth inspires me to look for beauty, color, movement, and the awesomeness of the planet and people around us, no matter the environment.

This first short film was created by Sean Stiegemeier, who wanted to capture the power of the unpronounceable Eyjafjallajökull, the volcano on Iceland that affected so much of Europe for weeks during the Spring of 2010. He captured these images over the course of two days in May 2010. His amazing imagery speaks to the amount of effort he put into the task.

This next piece is a time-lapse masterpiece, a true work of art created by pro nature and astronomy photographer Terje Sørgjerd. Terje traveled to El Teide, Spain’s highest mountain, also the location of one of the world’s best observatories. He wanted to capture the beauty of the Milky Way galaxy and also happened to capture a large Saharan sandstorm, which only added to the stunning results. Terje’s efforts are testament to the fact that preparation leads to results anyone will fall in love with, but flexibility to capture the unexpected leads to things that can never be duplicated. Enjoy!

Artistic inspiration moves you not to copy, but to simply See and Do More.

Aaron couldn’t wait to see his bride-to-be, Amanda. Everyone’s anticipation charged the air for their first glance at one another. Amanda was stunning in her Pnina Tornai gown. When she walked out to greet Aaron on the deck overlooking Liberty Park, there were tears and smiles of joy not only on their faces, but also on those of all the family and friends looking on. With several mini-events happening throughout the day — from Amanda’s bedeken on the second floor of the contemporary Maritime Parc to Aaron’s ketubah signing on the third floor — there were so many emotive moments giving rich meaning to their day and beautiful opportunities for photography. It was a true privilege to be there with them, as well as to see several other familiar friendly faces.

Our photo session with Naomi & Matt was actually the very first time we met with them in person. You might at first think they’d be shy and reserved with a couple of cameras suddenly pointed exclusively at them. But quite the opposite… we had a wonderful time getting to know them and talking about how much they are looking forward to their wedding day. Their connection with one another was obvious, and we’re even more excited to be their photographers for their upcoming summer wedding at Brooklake.

It was so exciting to meet Jenn & Clario for the first time! As it turned out, we ran into one another on our way to our predetermined meeting spot in Central Park. And they came bearing gifts in the form of Bubble Tea (our very first!) — a delicious drink for our warm Spring day that was just as delightful and refreshing as Jenn & Clario themselves. With Central Park and NYC as their backdrop and personal playground, we had a wonderful time getting to know them better while they put aside the books about mathematics and work, simply enjoying their date day together. Clario even pulled out a guitar to serenade Jenn with some soft music. Awesome! We can’t wait to join them this summer for what promises to be a beautiful wedding day at the Statler Hotel on the grounds of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
