New York Wedding Photographer – Ulysses Photography Blog » artistic. unobtrusive. fashionable. fun.

We knew immediately upon meeting Kelly that we wanted to photograph her wedding with Chris. They came strongly referred to us by Patrick & Joette, another one of our awesome couples. They met one another on the job with the NYPD. So what better way to keep them relaxed and romantic than enjoying a date day exploring the neighborhood around the precinct building, right?? It might have seemed like the most unlikely of locations, but it was perfect for them and absolutely a blast for us! Although she was quite the tough girl while dealing with the brutally cold temps during our session, Kelly was amazingly gorgeous both inside and out. Chris kept the energy up with his great sense of humor and fun, while serving up his own coolness for the photo shoot. What else can we say? Fire up the sirens because whether chilling together in a jail cell, going on a date in a police cruiser, or just walking hand-in-hand across the Williamsburg Bridge, this crime-fighting couple knew how to rock their photo session! We can’t wait to see them permanently cuffed… errr… wed together on their springtime wedding day at the Poughkeepsie Grand. 🙂

  • Ulysses - Awww! Wowww! Thanks so much Kelly! You and Chris have easily won a place in our hearts, too. You’ve not only put complete trust in us, but you’ve given us the chance to do the sorts of things we love most — provide really unique sorts of photos that will not only tug at your heartstrings, but that will also knock your socks off! It all starts off with your own individual uniqueness, and the rest is up to our mutual creativity. We love you 2! We’re so glad to know that there are yet more exciting days ahead! Can’t wait. 😀March 16, 2011 – 9:29 PM

  • Kelly + Chris - Everytime I look at our pictures (which is easily once a day) it brings a huge smile to my face. I’m so happy that you two are able to be a part of this special time in our lives. You are two of the nicest people we’ve met, and as we’ve told you the pictures you take are amazing. We cannot wait to see how our big day unfolds on film. You’re the best!!!March 16, 2011 – 9:21 PM

We first got to know Lauren & Jon through mutual friends, Lara & Tom, whose awesome wedding we photographed. We knew even then that we’d have a great time keeping in touch with this fun and engaging family afterwards. So joining them for a day in the park with their “little man”, Sam, was one of the most fun times we’ve had this year. Sam is an incredibly bright, remarkably inquisitive, and uniquely warm person. We couldn’t help but love him, and we were as endlessly entertained by our time with him as his parents must be every day! It was just as much fun getting a few photos of Lauren & Jon together, too. Just a wonderful family all-around, who simply let us do what we love. 🙂

  • Ulysses - Thanks, Jesse! Honesty in the photos is what it’s all about for us and for our clients. At least for our style and approach to this kind of session, there’s little reason to do it any other way. 🙂March 28, 2011 – 1:00 PM

  • Jesse - This photo of the family looking into the water is so brilliant! It seems reminiscent of a super 70’s tv add, but still seems really honest.

    Love It!March 28, 2011 – 12:57 PM

We began our romantic photo session with Jill & Brandon in a little restaurant where they’d first met one another, which gave added spice to their photos. While this warm couple enjoyed their time together, it was almost easy to forget the freezing cold conditions as we strolled along the Hudson River at sunset. With the Sun setting in front of us and NYC gradually turning on its lights, we had a perfect opportunity to get to know them better in what turned out to be an incredibly beautiful setting. Their love for travel and their easygoing personalities make them perfect companions for one another, and awesome models for our cameras. We’re more eager than ever to join them for their autumn wedding at FEAST’s Round Hill House.

BridePeople are talking! And let me tell you, we couldn’t be more thrilled about it!

Ulysses Photography was granted a Bride’s Choice Award 2011 from Wedding Wire, for the 3rd year in a row! Now, Wedding Wire would like us to mention “Ulysses Photography is recognized as part of the top 5 percent of local wedding professionals from the WeddingWire Network.” But in our opinion, all of that misses the real point of an award like this. After all, awards come and go. So what is the real point of this little accolade?

The Bride’s Choice Award is meant to celebrate the way our couples feel about their photos and about us. The enthusiastic reviews we receive from our amazing couples is a direct reflection of the warm relationships we foster and nourish with our brides & grooms. Our clients are the absolute best on the planet, and we want to ensure that you receive photos and service that is nothing less than spectacular. Therefore, it is such a gift to us when we read the handwritten cards, kind words, amazing reviews, and ecstatic raves our enthusiastic couples leave for us.

A heartfelt “Thank You!” to each of our couples.

Want to know when “Lifestyle Photography” turns the ordinary into the extraordinary for us? In a nutshell, it’s when ordinary, beautiful people like Jesyca & Bill invite us into their warm home to be a part of their own family. For years now they’ve allowed us to show off just how extraordinary a day with their family can be. Their complete devotion to their children is an inspiration to parents. The kids get excited to show us all their latest toys and musical instruments. And of course, we MUST see their favorite new clothes and pajama outfits! The day is always full of  surprises and fun. Photographing them is always a privilege, a celebration of the joy Jes & Bill experience with their family.

Lots more with Jesyca & Bill.

It’s always exciting when a bridal blog loves our photos and features our work. The Bride’s Tea blog highlights weddings and engagement sessions that feature the beauty of cultural diversity, while also providing practical advice for planning weddings that combine a rich cultural heritage with a western lifestyle. They’re succeeding beautifully. They’re currently featuring our breezy engagement photo shoot with Sora & Alex. Make sure you check it out! 🙂

We’re positively over the moon about Ada & Jimmy. They recently received their wedding album and then provided the following incredibly kind words as part of their 5-star review on WeddingWire.com:

As a local hairstylist, I have been very lucky to have Jenni as a client. I knew that she and her husband were photographers, but I had never seen their work. When I got engaged a year ago, I knew she was the first person I wanted to talk to! I scheduled a consultation with Ulysses and Jenni to get to know them professionally and get a quote.

I secretly already knew that Ulysses and Jenni were going to be our wedding photographers, but I was worried about how I was going to justify the cost to my fiance, Jimmy! As any newly engaged couple knows, there is a certain amount of sticker-shock when planning a wedding. Personally, I was willing to sacrifice many other expenses in order to get the best photographer because to me, unlike the flowers or the favors, the pictures are the one thing that really will last forever. When we went to the consultation, it turned out that I didn’t have to do any convincing at all! Jimmy had the same feeling that I did – he could see the value in their work, and he could visualize the two of us in the pictures they showed us.

Shortly after we signed the contract, we planned our engagement photos. My seven year old daughter, Katie, was included in our photo session at a local park. When we saw the proofs, I was in tears. I couldn’t believe that Ulysses and Jenni were able to capture the love that Jimmy and I felt for each other, and our gratitude for becoming a family with Katie. They didn’t pose us, but instead they instructed us to act naturally. They utilized the natural light and the architecture of the park to create the most unbelievable images! That shoot ended up decorating our new home with wall art of our new family! I smile every time I see them (and believe me, they’re not just enlarged photos, they’re works of art!)!

We had originally customized our package to only cover what we thought we needed for the wedding pictures. Needless to say, after we saw the engagement photos, we upgraded our wedding package! Neither Jimmy nor I wanted to miss out on any detail of the biggest day of our lives! Jenni was so thorough in making sure we had every detail covered in terms of wedding timelines and formal photos. In a time of much confusion, she kept me in line!

Ulysses and Jenni captured all the best moments of our day. When we look at our photos, it’s clear to see how blessed we were. We remember all of our emotions because they were captured so perfectly. Ulysses is a total artist – he had us cracking up with his ideas for photos, but when we saw the images, we realized his amazing eye for detail and drama! I wish I could post the album for you to see, because words just don’t do them enough justice! No one has seen our proof or wedding album and not commented that these were the best photos they’ve ever seen! Even other photographers have told me that we had the “best of the best” shoot our wedding!

As a stylist, my boss always tells us that it’s not the cost of the service, it’s the perception of value that matters. I have taken on this concept and believe me, the value with Ulysses and Jenni is there! We felt so “taken care of”, as the website is so easy to use, they post your images so quickly, they respond to your email right away – you will not be sorry! My family will forever be grateful of the images that we have, thanks to Ulysses and Jenni!

  • Ulysses - Ada, you are quite simply, in a single word, “INCREDIBLE”! I knew it from the time I first met you and Jimmy in person, and I feel the same way today. Your kind words are like a gift to us, and we truly appreciate it. Thanks, also, for providing some extra details for Heather! 🙂

Heather, we’ve forwarded some information your way. I’m so glad you’re attracted to our work. We would love to talk further with you. Especially after Ada’s glowing review above, we look forward to showing you why your experience with us will be unique, incredibly satisfying, and well worth the investment. Thanks for contacting us, and we’ll talk again real soon.November 18, 2011 – 12:21 PM

  • Ada Seymour - Hi Heather,

First of all, in my opinion you will be making the best choice if you go with Ulysses and Jenni! Without a doubt, they captured all of the emotion we were feeling on that amazing day! We are forever grateful!

Second, thank you for the compliment, I knew the second I saw that dress that it was going to be mine! I hope you love it as much in person! There was so much to enjoy about Andrea & Justin’s wedding day that it’s difficult to know where to begin. Was it their genuine emotions at seeing one another before their ceremony? their fun-loving playtime in a pair of over-sized Adirondack chairs? their luscious sense of styling including Andrea’s fashionable blue Badgley Mischkas? their jazzy choreographed dance in front of hundreds?  It must have been the entire package that got us so excited! But even more than all of that, it thrills us to get an adorable note like this one, complete with gown and glitter, from a fantastic couple who loves what we do:

Dear Ulysses & Jenni,

Justin and I spent the entire weekend poring over our album. It is magnificent! Somehow seeing it all put together was a surprise, despite our having chosen the images and approved the layout. Our families are thrilled with the albums as well — proof of a job well done!

The slideshow was lovely — it made both me and my dad tear up while watching. To me, the slideshow is so much more tasteful than a wedding video. Thank you for all of the thought, care, and time you put into everything… Again, we couldn’t be more pleased with the results.

You are both very talented artists and professionals. We are so very lucky to have worked with you!

Wishing you both the very best for 2011.

Love,

Andrea & Justin

Victoria & John mentioned to us from the get-go that they love taking photos. They really weren’t kidding! We had a complete blast with them as we explored the grounds of their former college in upstate NY. Although quite windy and chilly, this awesome duo braved the elements and pulled out all the stops for us during their fashionably fun photo session. With plenty of accessories and changes of clothing to add variety to the session, this engaging couple had nothing at all to worry about as John held Victoria close. They came strongly recommended to us by another marvelous couple, Nikki & Jared, their close friends whose wedding we are also photographing in 2011. So it’s going to be a banner year for this close set of friends, as well as for us! We can’t wait to join Victoria & John at the Glen Island Harbour Club for their summer extravaganza.

  • Amber - This is where Matt and I met!! 🙂 You have photographed many couples who fell in love at Siena!February 27, 2011 – 11:47 AM

  • Ulysses - Hi there, Jessica! How sweet of you to leave a comment. Thank you so much for doing so. I know this wonderful couple will enjoy it. Hope you’re doing well! 🙂February 6, 2011 – 7:34 AM

  • Jessica - How stunning! The bride and groom should really send these photos to the college – can you imagine the jump in applicants if these pictures were in their brochure? (“Attend our institution and you, too, can be gorgeous while falling in love!”) 😉

Seriously though . . . beautiful work (my favorite is the first black and white shot!)February 6, 2011 – 7:27 AM

As busy professionals in the medical field, Kim + Vini’s lives are constantly on the go. So enjoying a date day together with their gorgeous Doberman was a welcomed treat. Adding to the day’s specialness was the last bit of bright autumn color remaining in this lush pocket of Bear Mountain. A relaxed, fun shoot like this makes each of us look that much more forward to their wedding day at the Rockleigh Country Club. Here’s how Kim + Vini enjoyed the experience, in their own words:

Vini and I decided to do our engagement photo shoot in the fall since our wedding is in the spring.  We wanted to show our love photographed in different seasons.  Ulysses and Jenni did an excellent job of incorporating the beautiful scenery into our pictures.  At first we felt a little uncomfortable being the stars of the shoot.  After just a few minutes Ulysses and Jenni put us at ease and made us feel more comfortable in front of the camera.  We even brought our dog with us for some of our “family” photos.  We now have a great album to show to all of our friends and family, several pieces of wall art for our home and some prints that have made excellent gifts for our parents.  We would really like to thank Ulysses and Jenni for such a wonderful experience and we can’t wait to see the photos they will take for our wedding.

Kylie & Scott are a perfect example of the beautiful relationships we love to build with our clients over the years. They’re not only two of our biggest fans, but they’re also favorite people of ours. We’ve been with them for a lot of “biggies” including their engagement session, their wedding, and even Kylie’s dream of a honeymoon fashion shoot on Cape Cod! We were bowled over with excitement when Kylie asked us to photograph them again for their 3rd wedding anniversary. They traveled all the way up from Maryland to join us in beautifully scenic New Hope, PA, where we simply walked the town and talked and photographed. It felt just like old times. It was so great to see them again and help them celebrate this special occasion in such a meaningful and lasting way. A very Happy 3rd Anniversary, you two! Thanks so much for including us.

See more with Kylie & Scott!

We’ve always known what an incredible couple Melissa & Mark make. You can imagine our excitement at seeing their family grow with the addition of their bouncing baby boy, Mason! The three of them together made for a more-than-delightful family and newborn session. Mason was a perfect baby model for us. It was as if he already knew the routine after his mommy’s maternity session. 😉

What a fabulous way to close out our 2010 wedding season! Angela & James exuded old Hollywood glamour. Angela was positively breathtaking in her designer gown, and James was the picture of cool confidence. Their affection and attraction for one another kept us eagerly clicking our cameras all day long. We just love seeing a couple so connected as these two.

We’ll be vacationing at the same time as Angela & James will be on their honeymoon, but we wanted to leave a preview for everyone to enjoy while we’re away. Their complete gallery will be available in the “Boutique” area of our main website sometime during the week of December 20th. We’d love to hear from you, so please leave a comment here! And feel free to click the button below to “Recommend” their photos to your friends!

  • Ulysses - Angela! I’m so glad you got to see these so early! You should have heard our own “oooh’s” and “ahhh’s” as we went through the photos. 🙂

Angela, you were not only absolutely gorgeous, but also a fabulous bride! You and James each have such a cool and calm way about you that we knew there would be no worries at all during our day. And we’re so glad that you allowed us to put some time into your photos. It’s so worth it, and we can’t wait to show you the rest after we all return from vacation. Hugs & love to you both… Ulysses + Jenni (and please give our warm regards to your families! They were all a lot of fun, too!)December 5, 2010 – 3:58 PM

  • Ulysses - Maryann, you outdid yourself once again! The flowers went perfectly with the look Angela created for herself and her bridesmaids, and the room looked fabulous. Very colorful and festive without looking cliché. Just lovely. 🙂December 5, 2010 – 3:54 PM

  • Angela Suchy - These are incredible! You guys were amazing and so care free that it made our day so enjoyable! We had so much fun and we cannot wait to see the rest of them!! Thank you Thank you Thank you! We love you!!

  • Maryann Dawson - Gorgeous as always Ulysses & Jenni! I love them…..your artistic eyes are always working! Can’t wait to put them into my portfolio!!!!!December 5, 2010 – 9:32 AM

We were incredibly excited to join Katherine & Kevin in NYC for a fun time shooting their engagement session photos! It was an opportunity not only to get to know them even better, but also to show them just how great they look together on-camera. Chilly temperatures didn’t at all dampen their enthusiasm and energy during the session. As we walked along the High Line Park we found ways of keeping them close and romantically warm for excellent results! When Kevin originally proposed to Kat, a box of Oreos played a major role. So it was completely natural for them to enjoy a few more during their session. 🙂

We’re eagerly waiting to photograph their wedding at Catlin Gardens in 2011. Feel free to leave a comment below for Kat & Kev or for us. And remember to click the “Recommend” button to show your friends how much you enjoyed their photos!

  • Ulysses - Jessica! Your kind words are more appreciated than you know. We’ve loved every minute with this couple, and we wanted to knock it out of the park for them. They were so trusting, even when it seemed like what we asked made absolutely no sense. I think we were just as excited to see the photos as they were. Everyone was really pumped about the results from the shoot. 🙂December 2, 2010 – 11:39 PM

  • jessica - I love this session guys!! Love the different location and lighting too.December 2, 2010 – 11:34 PM

The anticipation in the air over Emily & PJ’s wedding was like happy electricity. A beautifully elegant Emily walked gently into the room where P.J. was waiting to see his bride for the first time in her complete attire. Their private Reveal was punctuated with happy, heartfelt tears of joy, and we were truly privileged to be there to capture those unique moments for them. There were many other emotive moments throughout the day. Everyone enjoyed the warmth and comfort of being indoors, but the florist brought some of the outdoor autumn colors indoors for their ceremony. Golden sunlight poured beautifully into the room as the time arrived for their vows. It was an incredible day, followed by a night full of dancing. The day was made more perfect for us personally when we realized Rachel & Ross were there, one of our favorite couples whose wedding and newborn we also photographed! They recommended Emily & P.J. to us, and we’re so delighted that they did. It was a great event, with great company, and even better memories for everyone.

There was, indeed, so much to remember, and we’re happy to have shared it with you and your families. 🙂November 25, 2010 – 12:15 PM

  • Em - We love you and Jenni too!November 25, 2010 – 9:06 AM

  • Ulysses - Thank you, Maryann! It’s always a joy, for us, but even more so when we have couples like Em & P.J. 😀November 24, 2010 – 7:35 PM

  • Maryann Dawson - Brilliant, brilliant photos…..always the very best!November 24, 2010 – 3:21 PM

Nicole & Tom are wonderfully original people. With Nicole’s flair and experience in the design industry, we knew the day would present a lot to look forward to. Breathtaking is the only word that described her in her Jenny Packham creation, the perfect choice for her. When it was time for Nicole to join Tom for a private Reveal, he was clearly very moved at seeing his stunning bride-to-be for the first time that day. We spent some precious moments with them for photos before guests arrived for the morning ceremony. The vows they wrote to each other were tender, honest, and open, leaving many eyes wet with tears of happiness. It was a spectacular day of great joy, renewal, and reunion. We’re incredibly thankful to Nicole & Tom for allowing us an inside look at who they are. Their personal touches on everything from the playful invitations and programs to the intricate origami decor for the centerpieces made the whole day feel uniquely theirs.

Enjoy these teasers. The complete gallery will be available soon in the “Boutique” on our main website. We’d love to hear from you all, so please leave a comment! And click the button below to “Recommend” us to your friends!

  • Ulysses - Love, love, love you too, Jen!… Oh, you meant the photos? LOL! But seriously, you already know how much we enjoy photographing them, but we still can’t stop saying it. Enjoy!November 17, 2010 – 8:57 AM

  • Jenn - LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!November 17, 2010 – 8:43 AM

Mawage. Mawage is wot bwings us togeder tooday.” — wedding speech from The Princess Bride

And thus began the wedding ceremony of Jean & Michael, garnishing laughter from all their family and friends. This easygoing and fun-loving couple each said at an earlier point in the day that they couldn’t believe it was finally here! It was love at first sight when they met in the banana aisle of Hannaford. All their eager anticipation had finally turned into a wonderful reality as Jean & Michael said their wedding vows to one another. Although it was a nippy and breezy November day, they were completely smitten with one another throughout the entire day. Since we’ve known Jean for many years now (and actually we’ve known Mike for nearly as long, as a guest at other weddings we’d photographed), we were actually seeing personal friends taking that step into a new chapter of life. We couldn’t be happier for the two of them!

We were each excitedly counting the days until Nikki & Jared’s engagement photo session. We hit it off with this delightful couple from the moment we first met with them. Their comfort with one another and with us made for an easy, breezy engagement photo session that each of us enjoyed immensely. A perfect couple to photograph in the fall season, we caught the last kisses of peak autumn color in the beautiful Mid-Hudson Valley. We can’t wait for their grand wedding day at the lovely Tarrytown House Estate, a personal favorite of ours.

Please feel totally free to “Recommend” their photos to your friends with the button below and/or leave a comment here. 🙂
