New York Wedding Photographer – Ulysses Photography Blog » artistic. unobtrusive. fashionable. fun.

Madeline was already bursting with excitement as all her closest friends from around the globe visited with her during her prep for her first-look session with Benji. She was simply stunning in her beautiful designer dress, and Benji was clearly over the moon to see her. They were a complete joy to photograph, and they couldn’t have scripted their emotive, eventful day any better. Madeline + Benji are already stars to us, so we can’t help but wish the best for them with their future endeavors in the film and television industry.

Enjoy these teasers for now. The complete gallery will be available in the “Boutique” area of our main website once Madeline + Benji return from Fiji. We’d love to hear from you all, so please leave a comment! And feel free to click the button below to “Recommend” us to your friends!

  • Ulysses - Madeline, what do I even begin to say? Your note here is soooo appreciated. We couldn’t get enough of you two throughout the entire day, but that pocket of time with just you and Benji — absolutely priceless. Thanks so much for choosing us and letting us do for YOU what we love so much. There’s a lot more to come! 🙂April 17, 2013 – 2:14 PM

  • Madeline Samit - WOW!!! I am crying all over again 🙂 The pictures are gorgeous and I can’t wait to see more! Something to look forward to AFTER the honeymoon. Now, that’s saying a lot!

After initially meeting with us, a couple’s next most exciting experience with Ulysses Photography is their engagement photo session. Martine’s million-dollar smile easily made the blustery day feel much warmer, and Kurt as the “leading man” gave us everything we could have asked for. Despite wind and cold weather, they were fantastic together. We can’t wait for what is bound to be an amazing wedding day at the Thayer Hotel in West Point, NY.

We knew from the moment we met them that really special things would be in store for Aleeta + Richard for many days to come. The words of excitement don’t come quickly enough today. Their one-of-a-kind wedding is featured on Style Me Pretty! This knock-out couple enjoyed the celebration of a lifetime with truly unique, personalized fashion and decor for their Hudson Valley wedding. You won’t want to miss their impossibly romantic story. Make sure you check out Style Me Pretty’s full inspiration board of favorite photos, too!

It’s always exciting to see our work featured in beautiful magazines. When the publishers of Westchester Magazine asked for help with a story they were running about making bold choices for wedding colors, we knew our bride Lisa would provide the perfect insight. You can read her advice in the Westchester & Hudson Valley Weddings Annual 2013 issue, found either on bookstore shelves or in digital format. You’ll find lots of great inspiration for your own beautiful event.

We knew something special was going on from the very first few clicks of the shutter that started our day with Erin + Ed. The editors of Style Me Pretty agree that it’s pretty AND special, too! Check out the gorgeousness that surrounded this Brooklyn bride on her wedding day. Don’t miss the full gallery of their favorites! It was a completely awesome day! If you enjoy the photos, please make sure to leave a comment for the excited couple!

We’re thrilled to finally meet Baby Brody! And what a chunky cutie he is! He was more than happy to pose for his very first photo shoot, and we enjoyed snuggling with and posing this little guy. We couldn’t be happier for Brooke + Dylan. They’re fantastic parents, and it’s a true joy to see their family growing like this.

After meeting and talking with Heartie + Chris at a recent wedding, we somehow just *knew* we’d see them again through our cameras soon. We’re doing cartwheels after being chosen as their photographers — they’re such an amazing couple to photograph. There’s no denying the genuine connection between them, a real electric spark that inspires their playful spontaneity! If you couldn’t already tell, we’re really excited to join this Brooklyn couple for their upstate New York wedding at The Hill.

Marsha + Michael’s “lovebird” themed wedding was to die for! We’re gushing (again) over all thoughtful details Marsha brought to the day’s decor. The publishers of the WeddingWire.com bridal blog asked Marsha to share all of her favorite things from the day, so make sure you take a look. And please leave a comment there for the happy bride & groom! 🙂

We’re delighted to read Amanda’s heartwarming thoughts after she and Aaron received their new family’s first art:

The newborn photographs of our daughter Abigail are absolutely breath-taking. Ulysses and Jenni have once again captured the emotion, love and beauty of our most special moments. The photography session was fun and exciting, and a definite highlight from our first days at home. We wanted to capture the beauty of our newly born daughter beyond what we could do with our own fancy camera and iPhones. Seeing Jenni and Ulysses was like hanging out with long-time friends. They were patient, professional and experts at handling her and developing gorgeous art. At the reveal we knew the photos would be amazing, but they far-exceeded our expectations. The hardest part was deciding what photographs to choose and buy!

Val + Ben are every bit as lovable a couple as we’d wished for. We seem to have a real knack for finding brides who will brave some of the coldest weather of the year in order to get some of our favorite photos. Well, that’s Val + Ben — putting their complete trust in us every step of the way through their romantic engagement photo session in New York’s incredible Central Park. They’re just great together! We’re truly happy to be their photographers. 🙂

We couldn’t be more excited about meeting Madeline + Benji for the first time! They’d traveled all the way out from California for their engagement photos and to do a little shopping for their upcoming wedding at Doral Arrowwood resort in Westchester County. Flirting and holding one another close came easily for them both, and suddenly it didn’t seem nearly so cold anymore near the water of the Long Island Sound. We had a fabulous time with them and can’t wait for what promises to be an amazing Springtime wedding!

Dana + Joe are our kind of couple. Even though this was our first time meeting them in person, we felt incredibly comfortable with them. We’re glad they felt so at ease, too, because they made for a perfect couple together. Coming from California, this was Joe’s first “real winter”, and  he got to experience our chilly temperatures and his first SNOW! One of the things that makes them such a beautiful couple is their laid back, no pressure, simple outlook on life. It’s a pleasure being their photographers, and we can’t wait for their wedding day with FEAST at Round Hill.

Westchester Magazine and Hudson Valley Magazine take pride in educating the area’s brides in all things wedding related. The Unveiled bridal event for 2013 was hosted at the VIP Country Club, the perfect place for brides to check out the latest offerings from the area’s venues, artists and talented professionals for the ideal wedding event. Ulysses Photography was there not only to photograph the event, but also to show off our own take on bridal beauty and fashion. A highlight of the evening was a fashion show runway with gorgeous models giving us a peek into the latest gown and tuxedo designs. After a fun evening reacquainting ourselves with old friends and making some new ones, we can’t wait to begin working with our couples for 2013!

What a CUTIE Josie is! We knew she would perfectly mirror the warmth and sweetness of her parents, Elissa + Brian. We fell in love with her as soon as we saw her. Elissa sent the following kind words:

Brian and I knew that looking back on Josie’s newborn stage just wouldn’t be the same without a photo shoot with you guys. Regardless, I was still a little bit nervous on the day of the shoot, being a new mom and having had only a few days at home with her.  …You guys were fantastic and were such a great help!!   I never expected to learn ways to be a better mom, but I did! Jenni – I still use the move you taught me to calm her down!

I was slightly anxious when you left, as I was certain that Josie being awake for most of the shoot translated into really bad newborn photos. Boy was I mistaken!!  WOW! There is so much personality and energy in the images that you capture, and that makes them priceless. Brian and I often joke that we are addicted to your talents!

Most importantly, we have the perfect representation of Josie’s first few days to look back on forever and to share with family and friends.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thousands of brides each year dream of finding the perfect white gown, while many others have a vision of walking down the aisle in vivid color. Perhaps seeing celebrities like Reese Witherspoon in her pale blush Monique Lhuillier dress, Anne Hathaway in her vintage Valentino gown with its fringes splashed with pink, or Cynthia Bailey in Russian designer Rubin Singer’s bold platinum spectacle is bringing out more creativity in brides and a desire to break from tradition. Whatever the varied reasons, you won’t want to miss Non-Traditional Wedding Gowns, an article for New York and Westchester County brides who are all about making bold, beautiful choices.
(The article is also found in Westchester Weddings 2012 magazine, p. 56, 58)

  • Corinna - I love the forward-thinking brides who choose non-white wedding gowns and I just posted Vera’s spring collection of red designs. I keep saying I’d love to have multiple weddings over the years so I’d have the opportunity to wear all of the gorgeous gowns I browse on a daily basis, but I’m pretty content with blogging about them.January 31, 2013 – 1:18 PM

We fell head over heels with Cathy the very moment we first met her because of her effervescence and excitement about working with us. So when she and Tim traveled across the country to join us for their engagement photos, we knew it was going to be a special occasion. Braving the unusually cold and windy weather like professionals, they hung in there without a single complaint for a beautiful photo shoot. We’re so appreciative that Cathy shared the following kind words about their experience with us:

A few months ago, Tim and I were searching for a photographer to capture the moments of our wedding day, and I couldn’t be happier that we came across Ulysses and Jenni. They have been so amazing to work with- even helping research new locations for our reception when the hall we booked shut down! Way above and beyond!

For our engagement shoot, we chose a location, but they also chose other spots that we would never have thought of using, and they turned out beautifully! Jenni and Ulysses made us feel so at ease. They made us laugh and guided us through the shoot. I felt like a model! We were excited that our love would be captured on film- and look natural. It was such a nice opportunity to create everlasting photos that captured our feelings for one another. It was a great day!

We were extremely pleased with our Save the Date Magnets, the slideshow, and the photo book. We had such a wonderful time sharing all of these with our friends and family, and this only increased our excitement for our wedding day!

I think one of a bride and groom’s biggest worries is choosing the right photographer to capture one of the most important events in their lives… We no longer have any worries with these two behind the lens!

  • Tom Harmon - Great photos. I really love the interaction between the couple.February 9, 2013 – 2:59 PM

  • Jenni - Hi Kelly! Thanks so much for your wonderful note. After seeing how much fun it was to work with Cathy and Tim, we can’t wait to meet the rest of the family. 🙂 We know their wedding is going to be fabulous, and we look forward to seeing you there!January 22, 2013 – 1:37 PM

  • Kelly Roman - Hi! I’m Kelly, Tim’s sister…

I just had to say, I love Cathy’s note to you! I had heard the story of their shoot and couldn’t agree more that Tim and Cathy looked so comfortable and natural (you would never know how chilly it was!)! The pictures turned out wonderful! I look forward to seeing, and “working” with you at the wedding! Cheers!January 22, 2013 – 1:25 PM

Run! — don’t walk — to get your copy of Westchester & Hudson Valley Weddings magazine! It’s exciting enough that some of our own work is featured there! If you’re looking for tips on finding your dream dress, searching for the latest in fashion ideas for our area of New York, researching delightful concepts for your own country chic farm wedding in the heart of Westchester County or the Hudson Valley, or any other wedding-related need, you’ll find plenty of inspiration in this year’s annual. We’ll discuss on this blog some of our favorite highlights in days to come. But for now, don’t miss this year’s issue on bookstore shelves or in digital format.

I remember an invaluable piece of personal advice given to us by a great friend and master photographer not long after we’d first opened our photography studio: “Never fall in love with yourself or praise your own work too much. Your brides will do that for you.” That’s the very reason we’re ecstatic to mention our being selected by our amazing brides & grooms, as well as our portrait clients for another Bride’s Choice Award for 2013 — our fifth year in a row! It’s a token of our commitment to beautiful and creative photography; excellent quality in our images, albums, and wall art; as well as the personalized level of service we work so hard to deliver to each and every client. We’ve won many awards from organizations both large and small. They’re award is fun to talk about! But it’s the dozens of enthusiastic personal reviews that truly put us over the moon. You can read them at WeddingWire.com. Here’s one sample review from Katie + Chris:

Wedding planning can be stressful at times, especially when choosing photographers, as undoubtedly these photos are probably the most important pictures of a couple’s life! Well, from the instant you meet Ulysses and Jenni any stress or anxiety a bride and groom may have is completely melted away! Ulysses and Jenni are a husband and wife team that are truly an example of a what a wonderful marriage is; a couple who loves one another and is a team! You can’t help but instantly feel relaxed and at ease as soon as you meet them. The best part is that their wonderful personalities bring out the best in the couple they are working with! For example, my husband was slightly uncomfortable with the idea of doing engagement pictures because he felt he would look like “weird” or he’d be forced into “posing”. Well, the second that we met up with Ulysses and Jenni in Central Park they had us smiling and laughing and feeling completely at ease. My husband and I often at times forgot that they were even there as we had a wonderful afternoon together walking through the park. By the end, my husband was actually so into the session he didn’t want it to be over! I honestly know that had it been other photographers I don’t think there would have been a chance that my husband would have enjoyed it (or myself for that matter!) nearly as much. The reason why I can’t stop gushing about how wonderful they are as people is because it feels as if you are hanging out with friends, and really isn’t that when we are all at our best? So can you imagine how beautiful and natural you might look in photos when you are just having a great time. Well, that is exactly how their photos looks; natural, effortless, and all-around gorgeous! When my husband and I saw those engagement pictures we were amazed! We knew that our wedding day would be no exception. It turns out that on that very special day, they didn’t just bring their “A” game, they brought a whole new dimension…I’ll call it the “A +++ game”! They were able to capture every laugh, every tear, every awesome dance move, and every wonderful moment of the day. The best part was even that our wedding guests complimented our choice of photographers saying things like they were so nice and professional. Each time I was told that, I said I couldn’t agree more! My husband and I just received our wedding album and it honestly looks like a magazine shoot. It completely blew us away. The quality of the photos and the amazing emotion that came through each picture was even more that I could ever imagine. I really could go on and on! But in all seriousness, the best way to ease any stress of the wedding planning process is simply to contact Ulysses and Jenni. The second you see their work and then speak to them in person I will guarantee that you will give a sigh of relief as the search is over and you have found “the one”!

As excited as we were when Brooke + Dylan contacted us about photographing their wedding, we’re even more thrilled about photographing their growing family! Brooke looks absolutely fabulous as they wait for Brody to arrive. We’re counting down the days until we finally get to meet him. 🙂
