New York Wedding Photographer – Ulysses Photography Blog » artistic. unobtrusive. fashionable. fun.

Believe it or not, the Spring season IS on its way. But Baby Jake’s arrival simply wouldn’t wait for warmer weather, just like we couldn’t wait to meet him for the very first time. Photographing him was a really big highlight for us because it also meant getting to spend time and catch up with his amazing parents again, along with their beautiful little girl, Maya.

We loved everything about our dream day with Michelle + Mark. They’re both beautiful people inside and out, and they’re really special to us. For their part, they were blown away by their photos! We’re thrilled to have received this note from Michelle about her excitement upon receiving her album:

I don’t know where to begin.

The grand finale…the wedding album! I am speechless. It is magnificent, a piece of art. Mark and I are spellbound. We looked thru it a handful of times already and can’t get enough of it. Words cannot express how grateful we are to you and Ulysses. You touched our lives with your beautiful work and gave us something that will last for generations. We are looking forward to our next adventure and would want nothing more than to have you and Ulysses there, capturing it 🙂

Sincerely,

The happiest bride in the world! 🙂

Michelle

We get warm & fuzzy feelings when we receive love notes like the polka dotted card we received from Jamee + Jeff after their fun family lifestyle session with us:

Dear Jenni & Ulysses,

Thank you so much for all your generosity of time, talent, spirit, and Home Goods!

Much as we couldn’t imagine starting our life together without you as our historians, we couldn’t picture our family moving into a new home without your vision of our joy together decorating our walls.

We are so grateful to have you to record these milestones for us. We will always be tremendous Ulysses Photography fans! Thank you for everything! Fondly — Jamee, Jeff, and boys.

Thank you, Jamee!!! You have a family every bit as beautiful as the one you always dreamed of having. We loved spending the afternoon with each of you again!

If the bride and groom are both getting ready in the same hotel, the hotel staff might think it would be best for your rooms to be on opposite sides of the hotel. After all, you don’t want to bump into each other before you’re ready, right? However, this can make it an extra challenge to photograph both of you getting ready. If your rooms are close by, we can easily drift in and out of your rooms – as can your friends and family who are also getting ready. This avoids wasted time for you, your wedding party, and your family, and prevents missed photo opportunities. It’s an easy enough thing to call the other nearby room when you want to make a private exit, so there is no need to worry about bumping into each other. It will also make your life that much easier when you need to transfer your things later on.

There are few things more pleasurable in our field than meeting and photographing a couple as beautiful as Katherine + Kevin. The kind words in Kat’s review put us over the moon!   🙂

This review has been a couple years in the making. I’ve been trying to find the right words to describe the “Ulysses and Jenni” experience, that would provide a meaningful (and different perspective) for brides-to-be! Planning my wedding was extremely stressful as my then fiancé and I were in the process of changing careers and moving. In all of the craze, I was so thankful to receive emails from Jenni and Ulysses because I knew they would help keep me on track. I valued their opinion throughout the process and my husband and I just really enjoyed chatting with them – when we met them they immediately felt like old friends.

Now that my husband and I are settled – and the boxes are mostly unpacked – I am so thankful each day as I look at our wedding picture at my desk, or browse through our album, or look at one of our engagement pictures – that Jenni and Ulysses were a part of my wedding. They weren’t just another vendor. They were partners throughout the process and I just can’t say enough good things.

And this is why we love what we do! ^^^

Anna + Bill are a perfect match for one another. They were perfectly affectionate together, which was exactly what we wanted to see for their engagement photos. They wanted their photo session to be unique and expressive of who they are individually and as a couple. Their fun, flirty session gave us lots of reasons to look with anticipation towards their Spring 2014 wedding!

Jamee + Jeff are two of our biggest long-time fans! It still feels like yesterday that we were photographing their own wedding. Their readily apparent passion for life, music, dancing, and for one another hasn’t waned a bit. Now several years and two little boys later, it was a true joy to photograph this fun lifestyle session with them enjoying some family time at the boys’ favorite park. The autumn leaves brought an extra bit of warmth to their session. We couldn’t be happier for this dynamic duo and their awesome little guys!

  • Ulysses - Jamee, thank you for the particularly awesome comments, and most of all THANK YOU for introducing us to your boys and letting us enjoy such a fun afternoon of photography and play with your family. Although it may have been a little chilly by the lake, the boys never showed a single hint of wanting to stop with their favorite slides, swings and other activities — they simply loved being with mom and dad and showing off to their newest friends. It was a real privilege for us to be there seeing you now as loving and accomplished parents. Much love to the entire family from me and Jenni!! 🙂December 31, 2013 – 9:40 AM

  • Jamee - We had a blast at our “lifestyle” session with y’all and the photographs are AMAZING!!!! I’m trying to compose a fabulous thank you but there aren’t enough positive adjectives to describe how a photography session with you two is and how incredible the results are. We will always be HUGE Ulysses photography fans…and remember March/April 2022…bar mitzvah?December 30, 2013 – 2:11 PM

One of our favorite things about photographing family portraits is simply getting to know the family in front of the camera a little better. It gives us a better sense of how we’re capturing the things they love and the way they interact with one another day to day. That’s the way it was with Liz + Curtis, as they introduced us to their adorable kids, Nick and Gigi. Their lifestyle portrait session brought lots of smiles for us all. We look forward to seeing them again as the children grow! 🙂

They don’t come any cuter or more cuddly than Kaylee. She simply made us want to spend all day with her! After her awesome first photo shoot, we knew we had to leave her in the warm and loving hands of her family. We couldn’t be happier for Janine + Jarret, and it gave us so much joy to spend time with them again and their beautiful growing family.

When you have a couple who are as much fun as Tiffany + Justin, and combine their photogenic faces with colorful autumn leaves plus a beautiful sunset over a sleepy Hudson River town, you know you’re in for something really special. We can’t wait to join them for their wedding in Spring 2014!

  • JACQUELINE THOMAS-HARRISON - Congrats to you both, May God continue to bless this entrance into your union as He has blessed you both in the love shown here. Beautiful pictures of a beautiful couple. Love you Tiff.December 14, 2013 – 8:51 AM

  • Pauline Davis - These are some truly wonderful pictures of my niece & her fiancé, the photographer managed to capture their love in a way that is wonderful to see. Congratulations guys.December 13, 2013 – 4:19 PM

Kristine + Chris, without even trying, always manage to capture the eyes, attention, and hearts of everyone who meets them. So we weren’t at all surprised that Westchester Magazine wanted to feature their amazing wedding on a beautiful horse farm as the magazine’s Wedding of the Month for December 2013! We provided the photos, and Kristine took the time to write heartfelt words about the details of pulling such a fabulous day together. Make sure you check out the article and photos. Hopefully you’ll find inspiration for your own DIY projects to personalize your own event decor!

The pure excitement and enthusiasm of Rosanna, Kevin, and their kids over having their photos taken with us again definitely put us over the top with excitement of our own. When they first got out of their SUV to meet us, the kids came right over and greeted us with the biggest hugs you could ever experience. We knew from that moment that these were little Mini-Me duplicates of their mom & dad. We couldn’t have asked for a more fun time than we had with them while exploring fields of sunflowers, fishing in a little stream, and finding the most amazing autumn leaves. 🙂

Courtney + Chris had the perfect day for photos. Nothing says New York City in autumn quite like a walk through Central Park. Their ease and romance together was the focus of their engagement photos, and they put complete trust in us throughout our entire time together as we got to know one another better. Seeing their emotive happy reactions upon viewing the photos some time later was simply the best! We’re even more eager now to join them for a spectacular wedding day at the stately Sleep Hollow Country Club next spring.

Even though he’s changed and grown so much since we last saw him, we were completely floored by the fact that not only was Baby Owen already walking, but he was already RUNNING when we next saw him!! Well, he and his amazing parents ran away with our hearts during this very special photo shoot. We were joined by each set of parents, as well as Nikki’s grandma. We were so glad to capture his little personality during our time with him! We are always so appreciative of the joyful privilege we have in freezing such meaningful photographic moments of a happy family like theirs.

When a baby keeps getting ever cuter each time we see him — the way baby Paddy definitely does — we know we’re in for a real treat! Little Paddy’s fun personality, smiles, and giggles ensured a happy time as we joyfully watched his parents surround him with love. 🙂

  • Joette - He definitely is the cutest, and he just loves you two. So thankful for the beautiful memories you have captured for our family! Can’t wait for the next time!November 20, 2013 – 7:39 PM

We could hardly wait to spend some quality time with Brooke + Alan. We knew how excited they are about one another and wanting to capture their engagement time together in photos. We couldn’t have asked for a more enthusiastic team. With Brooke’s passion for health, nutrition, organic produce, and especially avocados, we have a lot in common! She shared their experience with the following kind words:

At first we were nervous about the shoot. However, that quickly dissipated within minutes. Ulysses and Jenni were able to bring out the best in us, truly capturing our personalities and letting us completely be ourselves. Being with Ulysses and Jenni was such a fun experience in a gorgeous setting. Their chemistry together is amazing and they have so much positive energy. Towards the middle of the shoot, you would never have thought we felt intimidated at first. During the reveal my breath was taken away. Stunning images put together with great care, actually brought tears to my eyes. Ulysses and Jenni are masters of their craft and such a pleasure to work with. We can’t wait for the wedding!

Alison + Dustin’s Gatsby-inspired wedding was full of personal touches that dressed up the day in a style all their own. The detailing in Alison’s designer Lazaro gown was to die for; she was breathtaking to see during her Reveal with Dustin. The broach bouquet she’d made along with the help of her grandmother was inspired by the rich colors of autumn, and while outdoors in the very crisp November temperature she had a stole to keep her warm. A vintage Samsonite suitcase for cards helped keep everyone else in the Gatsby mood for a spectacular evening with FEAST Caterers at Round Hill. We love photographing these two and couldn’t be happier for the way their day turned out!

Enjoy these teasers for now. The complete gallery will be available soon in the “Boutique” area of our main website. We’d love to hear from you, so please leave a comment! And feel free to click the button below to “Recommend” us to your friends!

  • Ulysses - Alison + Dustin, THANK YOU so much for choosing us, and especially for letting us “go to town” with what we love to do on this awesome wedding day. Jenni told me the story about the stole after I’d “borrowed” it. We both got such a huge laugh about it. And really, that whole period set the tone of the great things to come for the rest of the entire day! We couldn’t be happier for you, and we’re so appreciative of the opportunity to photograph you again and to be a part of such a romantic and beautiful day. Hugs to you both! Have a BLAST going through the rest of your gallery! 🙂November 23, 2013 – 10:13 PM

  • Noemi R Trompetter - Love the outstanding. PhotosNovember 23, 2013 – 5:34 PM

  • Alison - Seeing this post was such a great mid-honeymoon surprise. All of the little elements we put so much thought and time into were captured so perfectly. One of my favorite getting ready moments on that day was when we realized my vintage fur stole had gone missing from the bridal suite. We knew Ulysses’ was the culprit and I couldn’t wait to see the surprises he had in store for us with it. Little did we know he had used it to create a beautiful backdrop for my chandelier earrings and borrowed pearl bracelet. We can’t wait to create our own little storybook of this Gatsby-inspired day as we design our album with the rest of our incredible photos. Thank you both for seeing our vision so clearly and capturing these moments like no one else could!November 20, 2013 – 10:30 PM

  • Plum Pretty Sugar - Oh goodness, such a sweet couple. So very many congratulations!

There’s no joy like seeing a bouncing baby boy. It brings that much more delight when it’s Andrea + Justin’s baby, Alexander! From the moment we arrived, he was interactive and full of smiles and talking up a storm with us, making for an incredibly fun photo shoot with his mom and dad.
