New York Wedding Photographer – Ulysses Photography Blog » artistic. unobtrusive. fashionable. fun.

We first met Maureen & Dan at an event for Chateau Hathorn. Even then, we hit it off really well with them and hoped to see more of them. So we were excited when they got in touch with us again to photograph their winter wedding.

Dan’s cool and easy demeanor made him a pleasure to photograph, while he held Maureen close. And once again, we had a fabulous bride-to-be as our model, complete with stylish red heels (our readers know how much we love a fun pair of shoes for the session!).

There were plenty of laughs and lots of romance for their session, and we couldn’t be happier for them. We can’t wait for their wedding in January ’09 at the Chateau Hathorn.

We were so excited to finally meet little Ryan!  Not only did we know he would be adorable, but we couldn’t wait to see his parents again.

Our blog readers will no doubt recognize Jamie & Paul, whose wedding we photographed last year at The Garrison.  We had an amazing time with them.

Ryan was born just one day after their first anniversary, after just 3 hours of labor!  This beautiful little boy was a joy to photograph, and we even got to include their Beagle, Maya, and Ryan’s adorable cousin Madison (5 months old) in some of the photos. We can’t wait to watch Ryan grow up!

We were overjoyed recently when we received the most beautiful handwritten note from one of our couples, on one of our very own art thank-you cards. So awesome!

Dear Ulysses and Jenni,

Cory and I just wanted to send you a quick note to tell you how lucky we feel to have been able to work with such wonderful photographers.  You truly captured the essence of our “big day.”  You both were such a pleasure to work with and really made the process so simple.  Your suggestions were always right on and the end results were just beautiful!  From the engagement photos to the thank-you cards to the album (which looks amazing, by the way) – everything was perfect.  And boy – you made us look good!

Thank you for all of your time and for making our day so memorable.  We are so glad you could share that day with us.  It never seemed like you were “just doing your job”, but that you truly loved what you were doing and wanted to make great memories for us.  For that, we are truly grateful.

With love,

Kristina & Cory Demery

We first met Rebecca & Ed when she was a bridesmaid in Amanda & Jason’s wedding. Even then, this couple stood out to us as a pair who enjoyed the pure pleasure of one another’s company. So we were genuinely excited when Rebecca called to speak with us about their own wedding. We couldn’t have been happier for them after seeing first-hand just how much in love they are.

Their definite fun factor and hip sense of fashion made their engagement photo session a blast. While we walked and got reacquainted with each of them, we were privileged to create sets of irresistible images highlighting how they truly feel about one another. We can’t wait to show them the photos!

We’re eager to join them on their wedding day at Perona Farms.

It takes only a few moments with Stefanie & Peter before you realize how much they completely adore one another. Since he lives all the way down in North Carolina, every trip they make to see each other is special. So they didn’t require any tips from us about how to stay close and show their affection.

We’d met Stefanie and her parents while we were photographing the Unveiled 2008 Event for Westchester Magazine, so we were already excited going into their photo session. But when Stefanie pulled out the Manolo Blahniks she’d bought for the dress (wait… switch that around… she bought the dress to go with the SHOES), we were even more thrilled for the fun factor they brought to the session.

A real sense of fashion coupled with genuine warmth and passion made for an awesome photo shoot with this wonderful couple. We eagerly anticipate their Spring wedding day at the Rowsley Estate.

We could tell from the first time we met Heather that she was going to be one of our most excited brides of 2008. That enthusiasm totally paid off during their engagement session, where we created some of our favorite photos of this amazing couple. After that, we knew we’d have an even more fabulous time at the wedding! Heather & John’s celebration at The Eagle’s Nest did not disappoint. Just as they were exchanging rings, the Sun peeked out from behind the clouds and provided the most gorgeous light for the end of their ceremony.

Heather and John, we had so much fun sharing your day with you! Your deep love and affection for each other is obvious. We are so happy that you chose us as your photographers. We can’t wait to show you all the results!

Nicole & Matthew are an awesome couple who gave us plenty of enjoyable time with them to create some gorgeous photos. We’ve loved each and every minute of the entire creative process with them. There is nothing like receiving the sort of words she recently sent to us:

Dear Jenni,

I got to sit down w/my mom, stepfather and Matt last night for dinner and to look through our books. We absolutely love them! It was so fun getting to relive our special day, and everything came out just as we imagined it would! Thank you so much for all the love and joy you and Ulysses brought into our wedding day. It was great getting to know the both of you. Take care, and hopefully we’ll see you sometime in the near future. I brought my album to work along with your cards because we have one engagement and a few new babies, so I also hope you’ll be hearing from them as well too. 🙂

Thanks again!

Nicole

Katie & Don traveled all the way from Ohio for two BIG events: 1) to attend the NY Giants vs Cowboys football game, and 2) to have their engagement photos taken!

It was our first time meeting them in person, but it was no problem at all falling into an easy rhythm with this fun-loving couple. Each has a great sense of humor, which was definitely evident during the photo shoot, and we were glad to see their love for one another take center stage in the photos. We eagerly anticipate their wedding next autumn at The Grandview in Poughkeepsie, NY.

When the Reed family asked us to spend a day with them for their family portraits, we immediately jumped at the opportunity. With an unseasonably warm and sunny October day to enjoy, we knew it was going to be loads of fun. The skies were blue, and there were still plenty of leaves on the trees despite the stormy day before our shoot. The kids had a blast exploring the lake, playing in the park, and spending time with their loving parents. And we couldn’t help but have the widest grins on our faces while capturing beautiful moments with this awesome family.

  • Jenni - Jen,

Thanks so much for your comments! I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures. 🙂 The Reeds are definitely a beautiful family.November 17, 2008 – 5:20 PM

  • Jennifer Bunt - Very Nice pictures. I am sure you all had a Wonderful day taking pictures. Taking pictures with Ulysses and Jenni is always a Blast. I love how you guys always capture a persons emotions, making the pictures all the more personal and meaningful.

To the Reeds, you truly are a Beautiful family. This is a Beautiful picture!! Can’t wait to see the rest!!!November 10, 2008 – 2:18 PM

Elizabeth and Robert (Liz & Rob to their family and friends) couldn’t wait to get their wedding day under way. Liz’s mom and sisters helped her keep her anticipation under control while they all watched an exciting college football game on TV. Meanwhile, Rob was opening Liz’s wedding day gift, a fuzzy red Elmo doll that had him and his groomsmen completely cracking up. He probably won’t admit it, but he loved the gift.

Liz & Rob, we loved everything about your wedding day. Your ceremony had to be one of the quickest in history, but it made us so glad to take you for some private moments to photograph how you feel about one another. Just wait until you see the results. You were fabulous! We truly enjoyed spending time with such a friendly, down-to-earth couple and your family. Thank you so much for a wonderful day, and for the excellent meal there at the Thayer Hotel.

We love it when we hear back from our couples! Whitney & Greg placed such a high value on their photography that we couldn’t help but enjoy every moment with them.

All I can say to you guys is you’ve done it again!  Those pictures are exquisite – I didn’t think anything could be better than the engagement pics.  You guys have a knack for capturing a “moment” between a couple.

I cannot express how happy we are!!!

More to come later – we’re swamped with work at the moment and want to take time to go over each one individually!

You guys are ROCKSTARS in my book!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Warmest Regards,

Whitney

It was such a complete joy to photograph Jennie & Kevin’s wedding, with its many opportunities to capture the love and closeness between them and their families. It warms our hearts when we receive kind words like these from Jennie’s mom and dad:

We knew you guys were the right photographers for us the minute we met you at Maureen and Andy’s wedding up state.  Your work really shows the beauty and joy of the day.  We thank both of you for helping to make our daughter’s wedding one of the most beautiful days of our lives. I know we will spend many hours enjoying the pictures. It’s going to be so hard to choose the ones we want for our album because we seem to love so many!

Sincerely,
Janet and Frank Versaggi

When Neiman Marcus of White Plains throws an event for their clients featuring items that aren’t normally seen on even their own high-end list for fashion and design, then you know the event is going to be special. Invited guests were treated to an evening of wine and fine dining. The unique look and flair of the event was complimented by the excellent staff of Cosmopolitan Management, who made sure everyone’s needs were cared for.  Once the guests took their places at the tables, lovely models – each conversant in her own wardrobe and accessories – showed off exclusive lines of luxurious furs, jewelry, dresses and shoes. It was truly evening to remember!

We immediately enjoyed our very first contact with Michele on the phone. When we met her in person, we asked how she would describe her relationship with Joe and what she’d like to see in her photographs. Her choices were revealing:  Fun, joy, emotion, excitement, and “light coming through.” With those qualities in mind, we knew we’d have a blast during their engagement session.

This session was our first time getting to meet Joe, but that didn’t stop him from having a great time with Michele and with us. With Michele’s vivaciousness to help bring out his fun personality, the results were fantastic! We’re very much looking forward to their wedding in 2009, when we’ll get to walk the beautiful grounds at West Point, NY.

Hot candied apples. Hot autumn colors. Hot couple. Hot car!

Those brief words describe perfectly our day of exploration during a sleepy little town’s autumn Applefest celebration.

Annmarie’s day got better and better with each passing hour. As she rushed down the stairs to go see her groom for the first time that day, she was greeted by family who hadn’t seen her in a long time. It was not only a big surprise for her, but also heartwarmingly emotional. Javier was waiting in the garden area for her and was rubbing his hands together in barely contained excitement. He could hear her footsteps as she slowly walked through the foliage-covered walkway to meet him. She was a beautiful vision to behold. They were each clearly ecstatic to see one another. It was such a privilege to be there to watch this mini-story unfold.

There were lots of traditional Mexican touches that spiced the day with their rich cultural heritage. All their family and guests, young and old alike, enjoyed the variety of music and group dances. The atmosphere of warmth and love made for the perfect day.

Anna & Javier, we are so glad to know you both, and we couldn’t be happier that you chose us as your photographers. Your family and friends made us feel as if we were family, too. Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy your day with you. The time was so worth it, and we can’t wait to show you the results!

It’s been an incredibly busy month, with lots of amazing photography keeping us busier than ever.

If you’ve been anxiously waiting to see some of the recent weddings and other events we’ve photographed, then you can only imagine our own anticipation at wanting to share them with you!

Keep your browsers and news readers tuned to this blog. We’ll have plenty of images and galleries for you to enjoy as we continue working our way through our queue of assignments. Believe me, it will be well worth the wait!

Whitney’s emotive joy put a positively electric charge into the autumn air when we arrived at her mom’s home for her wedding prep. Her bridesmaids were all friends from early childhood, and their excitement at seeing her in her gorgeous gown was undeniable.

Following their song-filled ceremony, we shared some precious time with just the two of them for their photo session. The green grass in front of the inn was covered with red, orange and yellow maple leaves serving as the perfect backdrop for some amazing fall photos. We were awed by the color palette of yet another beautifully golden sunset, which gave us yet more unique opportunities for photographing this timelessly romantic couple.

Whitney & Greg, we cannot tell you how glad we are that you found us, quite by chance while we were photographing another wedding in the Hudson Valley area. We are so happy you did! The way you show your devotion to one another in your photos is only a reflection of what we’ve seen in you even when not in front of our cameras. Thank you so much for the honor of spending time with you on your wedding day. And a heartfelt thanks for the delicious meal!

Their entire wedding gallery will be available soon in the “Client Proofs” area of our main website soon!  Until then, please enjoy these preview photos. And feel free to leave your comments for us or the happy couple!

  • Ulysses - Hi there, Barbara!! It was so great to get to finally meet you as well as Abby! What a CUTIE she is!! You’ll be glad to know we have several photos of her throughout the day, so make sure you look for those once the gallery becomes available. 🙂

I think the next best thing to photographing such a fantastic couple like Whitney & Greg is when their family and friends are every bit as awesome and fun as the couple themselves. That was definitely the case here. I do hope we get to see you guys again sometime in the future.

And YES, we’ll travel pretty much anywhere a client will help us to go. So if you ever a need on some really special occasion, do not hesitate to call us. We love to travel!

    Talk to you soon.October 21, 2008 – 5:08 PM

  • Barbara Wade - WOW….what great photos! I can’t wait to see the rest of them! As a bridesmaid (the one with the little girl at the reception), I was lucky enough to see Whit get ready for the big day and I’m glad to see the pics captured her natural beauty as well as the gorgeous dress – and the stunning combination the two made!!!! And what a hubba hubba the hubs looks in a tux – ha! We’ll be stalking (um, I mean checking) your webpage for the rest of the pics when they get posted! It was a pleasure meeting you both and enjoying your skills…too bad you don’t travel to our home in Alabama! Ha! Yours truly, Barbara WadeOctober 21, 2008 – 11:48 AM

This has definitely been the month for fun events! The latest was the annual Best of Hudson Valley event held at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. If you haven’t been to one of these, it’s an absolute must! Many of the best restaurants, bakeries, and other providers of produces and services in the Hudson Valley area offer samples of their specialties, making for a night of fun and entertainment. Ulysses and I thoroughly enjoyed photographing the event for Hudson Valley Magazine.  It was great to see not only the magazine staff, but also many vendors we’ve worked with over the years, too, such as Blazin Beatz, McKinney & Doyle caterers, and Mohonk Mountain House.

We were also to thrilled to see four of our wedding couples – past, present and future – there to enjoy the exciting event with us! You’ll likely recognize Jesyca & Bill, Annie & Jay, Stephanie & Matt, and Heather & John in the photos below.
