2009 Bride WeddingWire.com just announced that Ulysses Photography has won the 2009 Bride’s Choice Awards™!

In its inaugural year, the Bride’s Choice Awards recognizes and honors vendors from the WeddingWire Network that demonstrate excellent quality of service, responsiveness, professionalism, value of cost and flexibility. This year’s recipients represent the top three percent of WeddingWire’s vendor community, which includes over 100,000 wedding vendors from across the US. That means Ulysses Photography is one of the very best wedding photographers.

Unlike other awards in which winners are selected by the company, the Bride’s Choice Awards are determined exclusively by recent newlyweds through surveys and reviews.

“We are excited to launch this annual award program to honor high-performing vendors based solely on the experiences of our WeddingWire community,” according to Timothy Chi, WeddingWire’s Chief Executive Officer. “This year’s recipients have set the bar high, exhibiting excellent service and expertise in the wedding industry.”

Ulysses Photography would like to thank our past clients for speaking so enthusiastically on our behalf and helping us win the 2009 Bride’s Choice Award!

What better way to spend an afternoon right before the Superbowl than with the one you love, and taking engagement photos! We were so glad to see Lara & Tom again. Although it was a sunny but cool wintry day, nothing was going to prevent Lara from showing off her great sense of style. This day was all about her love for Tom, AND her love for fashion (this awesome girl brought no less than three fantastic changes of footwear… LOVED IT!). Tom & Lara were simply great together, as we knew they would be.

They have a lot of fun things planned for their wedding photography, so we’re greatly anticipating their day at McCloon’s Rum Runner in Seabright, NJ!

  • Susie - These are fantastico!February 15, 2009 – 12:22 AM

  • Ulysses - Hi there, Lara & Tom. Tippi is missing you a LOT, Lara. I’m fairly certain you provided her with more attention and cat massages than she’s had in quite a while! Her own enjoyment was certainly mirrored by our own. We’re so glad you guys had such a great time during the shoot itself, as well as during the viewing session. Knowing how excited you are about what we do gives us SUCH a feeling of freedom and makes us want to work even harder to blow you away at the wedding. You guys really ARE the bomb. 🙂February 8, 2009 – 6:13 PM

  • Jenni - Lara and Tom, you guys are a blast!! Good job, you! 😉 Ulysses and I CANNOT WAIT for your wedding and morning-after session. We know you’re both up for anything, and it’s going to be amazing.February 8, 2009 – 3:35 PM

Alex & Joe were such a great couple to work with and photograph. We were so happy to receive a really nice card filled with these kind words after they’d received their albums:

AlexandriaJenni & Ulysses

Thank you so much for the gorgeous albums. Extra thanks to Jenni for getting them out so fast – the [family] LOVED them, and it was nice to go through them in person and see their reactions.

Thank you for everything… You guys have been so helpful and great through this whole crazy process. We look forward to being in touch and will send anyone we can your way!

Love,

Joe, Alex & Norman (their bulldog, for those who are curious!)

Our friend and Little Princess is growing more beautiful and becoming more lovable with each passing month. We can’t believe the time is passing by so fast!

Although she wasn’t at first too keen on changing outfits, Arianna quickly got into the spirit of things and was the perfect little model for her photo shoot. She’s inquisitive and curious about everything going on around her, and she constantly wanted to be involved during our session.

It’s always a joy to photograph with Arianna, Jasmine, and Josh. They’re absolutely and clearly in love with her. Who can blame them!? 🙂

  • Jennifer Bunt - Awe we just love Arianna!! Beautiful pictures, the family is just beautiful!! Love you all.February 4, 2009 – 10:06 AM

  • jessica - Oh she is CUTTTTTEEEE!!!February 2, 2009 – 2:34 PM

  • Jasmine - I cant believe how much she has grown lol. thx u sooooooooooo much!January 30, 2009 – 7:29 PM

There’s no doubt that Jesyca & Bill are the most caring parents ever. You can see that in the way they watch and dote over Alexander, who’s now about 20 months old (has he grown that much already???).

It’s always a great day when we get together with this awesome family. They were so much fun and so laid-back during Jesyca’s recent maternity session. As Bill and little Alexander took some finger paint and started placing their own custom artwork on Jesyca’s belly, Bill spelled out Meridith’s name. So with the spelling of her name now OFFICIAL for everyone to know, Meridith is on the way! We can’t wait to meet her in a few weeks.

Toward the end of our zip-line tour, we had to zip across a span of some 300 feet across a riverbed. The view was awesome. I’ve got the camera hanging from my shoulder and pointed out from my side to give you some idea of how it felt.

Here’s the first trip across the river.

And now for the return trip. Jenni clearly wants more….

  • Ulysses - LOL! Yeah, we had a blast! Next time, we’re taking our little Sweetheart with us through the trees. How about that!?? 🙂January 21, 2009 – 9:09 PM

  • Arianna - i am very happy that u guys did that!!!!!!!!!!!!January 21, 2009 – 8:28 PM

I brought along a little Canon PowerShot G10, a great point & shoot digital camera for our vacation. Not only did we shoot some fun and beautiful stills with it, but we also shot a bit of video.

When we got to the island of Dominica, we went on a zip-line tour through the rainforests. We thought it would be a constant zipping through the trees. But it turned out to be much more active and enjoyable, with obstacles and challenges to overcome. The guides started us off at about 20 feet or so above the ground. As the tour moved along, we went progressively higher and faster. Fantastic!!!

Here’s Jenni’s first zip trip through the trees.

And what did she think of all of this? Here’s her answer.

Maureen & Danny weddingNothing was going to get in the way of Maureen and Danny getting married last weekend.  Not the snowstorm the night before … not the limo that was 45 minutes late … not even the freezing temps that almost turned Maureen into her own “something blue.”  Maureen and Dan have a quiet joy together that was plain for everyone to see and which brightened their January wedding day.  They had a beautiful setting at the Chateau Hathorn, with a cozy ceremony in front of the fireplace. We even got to sneak outside for a few snow pictures. We are so happy that everything fell into place for them.

All of their wedding photos will be available soon in the “Client Proofs” area of our main website. In the meantime, enjoy these previews! And please leave a message for us or for the happy couple by clicking the “Comments” link at the top of this entry.

  • Jamaica Wedding Photographer - There is always something that tries to get in the way of doing important things! Nice shot, love all the snow, it adds to the white in her dress… thanks for sharing!March 16, 2009 – 6:14 PM

  • Sarah - I was so excited to see a awhile back that you two were doing another Chateau wedding! I was even more excited that it was a winter wedding and they even ended up with fresh snow on the ground! The pictures are amazing as always. I always thought a winter wedding there would be beyond beautiful and it appears that it was! Congrats to the lovely bride and groom!!!January 19, 2009 – 2:59 PM

  • Maureen and Dan Rich - Hi Jenni and Ulysses!!

We are in Jamaica and checking the site everyday for the pictures!! The two that are a preview are BEAUTIFUL!!! We can’t wait for the rest. Thank you so much for everything! We had a wonderful time at our wedding, even with everything that happened (I only had one Bridezilla moment! – Everyone was betting on more!). Dan and I are so happy that we found you two. You have such a beautiful and magnificent talent! Thanks again for everything! See you when we get back home (sunburned but very happy! LOL!!!!!!).

    Love always-

Three of our very own couples had their picture featured in Hudson Valley Magazine’s ad for their next “Best of Hudson Valley” event. Even though we’re biased since we photographed the event for HVMag, we think they each looked fantastic! We can’t wait to let them in on this latest bit of fun. The ad appears at the back of the January 2009 issue. We hope to see lots more of you at their next BOHV event in October 2009!

We were excited to see Kimberly & Eric once again. As they sat with us to look through their wedding album for the first time, their broad smiles told us they were reliving the entire day again. A few days later, Kimberly sent this kind note of appreciation:

Hi Jenni-

I want to thank you again for such an amazing wedding album. Everyone was to see it during the holidays and loved it so much! Our album and your work were the talk of the table! Thanks so much for photographing the most special day for us and putting together a beautiful album of lasting memories. We are so grateful.

I hope to see you both sometime soon, its been so much fun!!

Grace & Mike have received their gorgeous wedding album. I think we get just as excited as our couples when their albums come in. So we always appreciate the enthusiastic reactions we get from them. Grace & Mike send these kind words:

Jenni and Ulysses,

Sorry this is such a short email, but we wanted to send you an email as soon as we could… We’re spending the next week in NY with our families, who will be thrilled with their presents!

You guys have outdone yourselves AGAIN!  Our album looked absolutely incredible!  We loved the new modern matted book, and were so glad we took your advice about ordering it.  As usual, you were right, and the pictures looked more amazing in person than online!  We absolutely LOVE it!!

Thank you so much!!  This was the perfect Christmas present, and we’re so glad it came in time!  (Mike and I had been checking the UPS tracking website religiously:))

Love,
Grace and Mike

Lots more with Grace + Mike.

David brought Lindsey all the way from Houston, Texas to New York City to propose to her. Not only were they thrilled with the photos, but others are going crazy over the proposal session, too! Lindsey’s mom shared the following note so we’d know about their friends’ reactions to the photos:

I thought you might like to hear some of the comments our friends are making about the pictures!!

  • Oh WOW!!!  The pictures are just fantastic – photographer did a great job.  I’ve viewed the slideshow twice already and plan to do again.  It’s like watching a love story.  Photos 6 through 12 made me cry!!
  • I loved every minute of the slideshow!  Started crying at frame 42!! Just hit me!! That’s the sweetest, most beautiful, unforgettable engagement i’ve ever seen!
    Thanks for sharing!
  • OH WOW!!! I cannot believe how wonderful their pictures are!!!  What a perfect keepsake of this special day!!
  • Absolutely beautiful – breath taking.
  • What a lovely couple! And what lovely engagement pictures. The photographer had a wonderful couple to work with and he did an outstanding job. A real “work of art”. I really like the picture they used on their blog site. A perfect picture! Thanks so much for sharing with me.

    Great job!January 1, 2009 – 6:57 PM

Lindsey & David engagementAs David led Lindsey to the uppermost level of Belvedere Castle in Central Park, his excitement was palpable. Since he was in the very middle of Manhattan, he had to wait a few minutes for other tourists to back away so he’d have some relative privacy to propose to Lindsey. As soon as he did, he gazed into her  eyes and told her how much she meant to him. And he got down on one knee, opened a ring box, and proposed. Completely overjoyed and overwhelmed, Lindsey said “Yes” and gave him the biggest hugs and kisses possible. All the onlookers clapped, and one little girl had everyone laughing when she said “Happy anniversary!”

After they had a few more minutes of private time, we took the ecstatic couple on a walking tour of Central Park, making sure to stop at some wonderful spots for photographic fun and romance. Since they were truly in their own world, the day was naturally suited for their proposal & engagement photo session.

Jacquelyn & Tom were such a fantastic couple to photograph and work with. We couldn’t be happier than to receive the following kind words from them, complete with LOTS of excited exclamation points:

It’s been a while since we’ve last posted, while we readjust back to life on the mainland. But we’re also catching up on a ton of work since getting back from vacation – portrait sessions, album design projects, talking to couples about weddings for 2009 and 2010, and even a recent proposal photo shoot in NYC.

Since returning to the cold and snow, we’ve been anxious to share some of our vacation photos with you. We had an awesome time with two of our best friends, Detroit area’s incredible Jessica & Nathan Johnston, a fantastic and fun-loving couple who share our passion for amazing photography. Our vacation took us to the beautifully varied islands of Aruba, Bonaire, Grenada, Dominica, St. Thomas, and Princess Cays. The sky was full of sun; the islands were saturated with varied color; there was plenty of sand between our toes; we zip-lined through a rainforest; the food was delicious; we met some wonderful people; and I think I may even have gotten a couple shades darker!

Rosanna & Kevin are now the proud and happy owners of a beautiful and fun wedding album. Rosanna stopped by our studio yesterday to pick up her entire order. It was so good to see her smiling face again! As she turned each page, she lingered over the images that called to mind just how amazing their wedding day was. Although Kevin couldn’t be with her during the Album Reveal, he called her cell to say hello and to ask how everything looked. From their main edition book to parent copies to little miniature copies, we can definitely say she couldn’t have been more pleased.

We look forward to seeing more of this awesome couple in the *very* near future! 😉

More with Rosanna + Kevin.

We’ve been getting such beautiful notes lately, and we know our blog readers enjoy seeing them, too!  Here is one we received from Lilline & Evan after they received their wedding book:

Dear Jenni and Ulysses,

The albums are gorgeous! Thank you sooooooooooooooo much for your fabulous work! Evan and I are both extremely happy with the way the album turned out and everyone who has seen it has been truly impressed.  Our parents were excited to get their mini books and have already begun toting them around to show all of their friends. Photography was really important to us so that we would be able to look back on the day and remember all of the special moments again. The book really captured the feelings of the day and I am so grateful for it. I can’t stop looking at it.

… We appreciate how you both go to great lengths to think of all the little things and then go beyond that.  I could keep going on singing your praises.  Thank you so much.
Sincerely,
Lilline (and Evan)

We genuinely enjoyed everything about Patricia & Noel’s wedding day. After receiving their custom wedding book, Trish sent this incredibly kind note:

Hi Jenni!

I’ve been meaning to email you all week….we got our albums on Tues and we absolutely love them!!!! It almost made me cry! I felt like i was back on Aug 8th!!! And it’s nice to have that feeling at this time of the yr…when the weather is so miserable!!  And I love the DVD…the music you guys chose is so nice!  I actually showed my senior anatomy classes, because I’m really close with these students (I’ve had them for 4yrs now!), and they were just as excited as me!! It was so nice to seem them react the way they did! And hopefully it’s a good plug for the two of you also!

The layout of the album is so good…it just tells the story of the day so well.  Alot of my friends told me I’d be sorry if I didn’t have a video…but I really am not! The pictures are so good they just speak for themselves!  My friends all told me too that my face would hurt from smiling at the end of the day…but it didn’t because I was just having so much fun, and was so relaxed…and that was all thanks to you both!!!

Thank you both so, so much!
Love,
Trish & Noel

P.S.  Hopefully in the not too distant future we’ll be seeing you again for some family portraits!!!
