Lauren & Justin - Quiet Interlude on Grass

The image above comes from the day’s end of an amazing couple’s wedding, which received a write-up in the WPPI Newsletter back in November 2006. It may not be your “traditional” wedding photograph, and that’s probably one reason Lauren & Justin chose it as one of their dynamic favorites for their wedding album! All will be made clear once you’ve read the story and seen the rest of their images:

WPPI Newsletter Article, November 2006: Ocean Bride

Their story is a perfect example of the sort of beauty we LOVE to create when we have complete freedom and time to experiment. The results are SO worth it when our couples want to take some gentle risks (photographically) along with us. πŸ˜€

I can’t tell you how excited we were to meet with Andrea and Frank. It must have been at least partly because we knew how incredibly pumped they were for their e-session portraits. The enthusiasm of this lovable couple was infectious and simply made our day. Passers by must have at times wondered what sort of medication we were all on, but everyone could see how much fun we were having, and sometimes got in on our games as they walked by. We can’t wait for their wedding at the beautiful Skylands Manor later in the year.

This slideshow preview includes a few of our favorites their e-session (it’s always so tough to choose). Just press the “PLAY” button to start the show.

The complete online gallery will be available very soon in the “Client Proofs” section of our main website. So keep your browsers bookmarked with that address. πŸ™‚

  • Why We Love What We Do at Ulysses Photography Blog - […] Andrea & FrankÒ€ℒs Engagement […]May 19, 2008 – 7:32 AM

  • Ulysses - Hi there, Roseanne. Thanks so much for the “kudos”. πŸ™‚

It was easy with these guys. They’re obviously in love. But Jenni and I also think great pictures are a function of having great communication with your photographers. The whole team needs to be in sync for the best results. We work really hard at building that kind of relationship, and the results are always worth it.

We had a lot of fun with this session, too, because we got to utilize areas of that venue that we hadn’t used in the same ways. Because of the weather and ice, we needed to think out of the box for many of the images. But they were up for anything! Great!

We’ll be away for a few days in Las Vegas for a professional photographers convention. But if you ever need anything — especially photos of your own — do not hesitate to let us know! πŸ™‚March 19, 2007 – 12:33 PM

  • Roseanne - These pictures are beautiful! It completely shows their love for each other.March 19, 2007 – 12:08 PM

  • Ulysses - Thanks so much, Jess. We had an awesome time with this couple. They had a really natural closeness and a fun sense of humor that allowed them to do *whatever* we asked of them. Gotta LOVE that. And it also prepped them for a little adventure on the wedding day, where we’ll get to explore their mansion venue (!!). πŸ™‚March 12, 2007 – 12:29 PM

  • Jessica Johnston - #11 is just wonderful. Great use of texture overlay and emotion in the photo. Nice job!

    JessMarch 11, 2007 – 11:47 PM

I should also add, “… and Daddies Too!” Don’t want to forget them! πŸ˜€

Jenni and I are always happy to keep up our correspondence with as many of our couples as possible. You can only imagine how exciting it’s been to hear how many of you are seeing your families (and your beautiful bellies) expanding! What an amazing time this must be for you! It really is as if our own family is growing, too.

Because of our great desire to continue capturing artistic photos of your life experience and that of your lovely children, we’d like to show you just a taste of how much we enjoy this special period.

Cover photo for the Knot spring/summer Γ’β‚¬Λœ07Many of our readers remember Vivian & Johnny’s wedding at The Garrison. We had an incredible day with them, and their pictures were simply beautiful. Vivian and Johnny each had an elegance and true sense of style, making them a joy to be around.

The editors of “the Knot Magazine” felt the same way about their photos and accompanying story. They published an article in the “Real Weddings” section of their Spring/Summer 2007 NY Metro edition of “the Knot Magazine”, which should be coming to a bookstore magazine shelf near you. In the meantime, if you’d like to download and read the article, you can do so here. Click the image below to go to our download page.

To Vivian & Johnny: Our heartfelt thanks go out to you, as well as your beautiful families, for giving us the privilege of being your wedding photographers. Jenni and I hope to see you again soon. πŸ™‚

One of our favorite things to do in Paris was “sample” the variety of foods and tasty dishes. This was an exciting adventure in itself because half the time the menus were written completely in French, with no English translation (!!!). So occasionally, we’d get something that was nothing like what we expected, considering our very poor French. But the food was always of excellent quality as to taste and presentation.

Our traveling partners, Melissa & Rene Tirado (also incredible photographers) were Jerry’s other models during our trip, and we loved spending time with them. So here in the final image for our tour of Paris, we found ourselves sitting outside a popular cafe, and clearly having a blast as we think about our incredible experiences.

We can’t say enough about how much we loved being in Paris. I know we’ll return one day soon, and MAYBE we’ll even photograph some of our awesome brides there! Wouldn’t that be amazing!?? Dream large when it comes to your photography! And make it happen!

We’d like to thank ALL of you for looking and sharing your comments. Keep your browsers bookmarked to this blog. There will be more great images and information coming soon. Please keep your comments coming. We truly enjoy the interactivity that this blog allows. Knowing what you love about the pictures helps us to do what we love so much, too.

Especially would we like to give a shout out to Jerry, Ryan, and Sally, our Australian friends; David Beckstead of Washington; and the Melissa & Rene in Boston (love you guys!). Without you none of these incredible images would have been possible. Let’s do it again sometime soon! πŸ˜€

  • Ulysses - Jess, I like not only the happiness of the stylish couples in the foreground, but also the way life inside the cafe just goes on without ever knowing why the couples are so deliriously happy out there. It’s just a total package in one picture, isn’t it? πŸ™‚

Thanks! Looking forward to visiting with you and Nathan soon (Note to anyone needing a Michigan photographer — if you can’t fly Jenni and myself out there! — Jess and Nate are *awesome* photographers!).February 23, 2007 – 4:37 PM

  • Ulysses - Cory the pictures convey so much about our times there when we look back on them. But let me tell you, the reality of being there was even more intense and unbelievable. Of course, not every day was a fashion shoot, and we could simply enjoy watching the sights instead of being watched through a camera lens. But when wrapping up the entire experience, it was simply fabulous. You guys HAVE to go if you ever get the chance. πŸ™‚February 23, 2007 – 12:17 AM

  • Cory - I defintley agree this picture is a great wrap up of what your trip to Paris was all about.Just thinking back about the trip and taking it all in before you leave. In every picture you can tell you guys had an incredible time. Hopefully one day we will get there too. Thanks for sharing.February 22, 2007 – 10:59 PM

  • Jessica Johnston - oh this one is so full of life and just embodies paris to me.February 22, 2007 – 9:13 PM

This one wasn’t actually shot in Paris. But I just had to include it in the line-up because we really enjoyed meeting a variety of warm and enthusiastic photographers while in Europe. We had a chance to help Jerry out with his workshops, and two of our favorites attending the class were Berty Greenbough and Laetitia Perrot, who together form the team of Perrot Photography. Each of them share a similar energy and enthusiasm for photography that Jenni and I do, so we couldn’t help but be drawn to their work.

During the shooting portion of the class, this image was taken by Berty. We had fantastic morning light, and he used it to best advantage by creating this very cool and dramatic interplay of shadow and sunshine.

The hat!

Keep those comments coming! We’re going to continue to respond to as many as we can, too. We’re really enjoying the feedback, as it helps inspire us for your own photos. Stay tuned! Our blog returns to Paris tomorrow!! πŸ™‚

  • Ulysses - Berty, thank you so much for the very kind words! πŸ™‚

We had the greatest time while visiting there in the UK. On the first evening of the workshop, I believe you and Laetitia were the first people that I met there, so we were bound to have a good time on the days immediately following.

Keep up your passion for what each of you do as photographers! We know that quality is going to serve you well.February 26, 2007 – 4:01 PM

  • Berty - Thank you Jenni & Ulysses for putting my image on your blog. You do me a great honour. For any protenial brides out there looking at this blog I can assure you that you will not find more genuine or carring wedding photographers as Jenni & Ulysses.February 26, 2007 – 2:31 PM

Walking and teasing near the base of the Eiffel Tower. We decided to get a closer look at the Eiffel Tower. On its northern side is the bridge crossing the Seine River leading back to the Trocodéro, and on its southern side is a long narrow park of grass and walkways lined by benches and trees. This park is where we now found ourselves.

Although it wasn’t as green on this January day as it would be during the summer, it was unseasonably warm (for January in Paris), and a walk by the Eiffel Tower was a perfect opportunity to enjoy the panoramic views, as well as enjoy one another. We saw plenty of other couples like this, in love and in their own private world.

  • HBT - Jenni & U! You guys are so cute! I didn’t know you were in Paris…looks like you had a great time! I hope to make it there some day with my hubby too.
    Best,
    HBTMarch 19, 2007 – 5:56 AM

  • Ulysses - JC: Thanks for the kudos! Coming from you, that means a lot. And thank you for the referral! If we hear from her and it all comes together, we’ll definitely let you know. One of these days, we’re going to end up in the same city eventually. I know how much you like to travel, too! πŸ™‚

Cory: I’m glad to hear you like this one. After your getting to know us better, you can actually see the “real us” in this photo, can’t you? πŸ™‚

We had an awesome time in each and every one of these pictures.February 22, 2007 – 2:27 PM

  • Cory - This picture ia adorable it shows how much the two of you adore each other. How much in love you are. The perfect name for this picture is Isn’t Love Grand!February 21, 2007 – 12:48 AM

  • JC Carley - I love this shot of the two of you! I love how U is looking at you J! It just screams “I love you and I am so lucky you are mine!”

Have a blast! You deserve it!

    Love J.C. CarleyFebruary 20, 2007 – 9:12 PM

  • Eric L - Jenni & Ulysses,

All your pictures are amazing, but this picture especially speaks to me. I think it’s because this picture really captures the Ulysses and Jenni that I know.

I want to reach into the picture and give you both a huge hug!!

    EricFebruary 20, 2007 – 5:47 PM

Love near the Eiffel Tower. While we usually avoided the major tourist traps in Paris, how could we resist spending at least a little time at the Eiffel Tower? We walked across the bridge that leads from the Trocodéro to the Eiffel Tower. Once we got there, it was only then that we appreciated how truly massive this structure really is. Though it is made of steel and covered in thousands of bulbs to light it up at night, it is undeniably beautiful even in broad daylight.

Swept up in the joy of being there near the Tower, we couldn’t help but get closer for this movie poster-like photo. I love the almost “epic” feel of it, another story captured in a single moment.

  • Jamee and Jeff - An excellent example of “leaning in close.” Your future brides and grooms should study the natural physical and emotional closeness you two emote in this photo.February 24, 2007 – 9:49 PM

  • Ulysses - Thanks, Chris & Lynn. Good to see some West Coast photographers visiting our blog here on the East Coast. Looking forward to meeting you guys sometime soon. πŸ™‚February 23, 2007 – 4:34 PM

  • Chris Lynn - A classic! Very cinematic indeed!February 23, 2007 – 3:06 PM

  • Cory - Oh I love this one. It is so epic right out of a movie. very dramatic…February 21, 2007 – 12:42 AM

  • Ulysses - We love the framing in this one. There’s actually a lot going on in this photo that isn’t immediately apparent. For example, behind Jenni’s shoulder is the top of a merry-go-round, which was filled with parents and their children who were watching this entire photo shoot. It was really funny to finish, turn around, and see all of these people watching and having as much fun as we were. πŸ™‚February 20, 2007 – 9:42 AM

  • Jessica Johnston - ohhh this is my favorite one so far.February 19, 2007 – 11:51 PM

  • Marie & Sal - Absolutely! This photo has a sweet epic feel indeed. Jenni girlfriend, you look stunning! Ulysses, you guys got it going on! πŸ™‚ Beautiful solid embrace!!!February 19, 2007 – 11:42 AM

Immediately across the Seine River from the Eiffel Tower sits the beautiful park of The Trocodéro, which is also the site of the Palais de Chaillot. Many thousands gather each day to enjoy the grand views of the commemorative structures, the peaceful greenery of the park, or to gaze upwards at the Eiffel Tower which lords over this portion of Paris.

For this fashion session, we chose to make ourselves as indigenous as possible and do as the Parisians do: Sit on a bench and enjoy watching the tourists and sight-seers pass by. Of course, to make this work, you must strike the pose that we have here! πŸ˜€

All of a sudden we (the models and Jerry the photographer) became one of the sights that the tourists were gawking at. It was actually a lot of fun, turning a photo session into a surreal but utterly enjoyable experience. We absolutely loved it. πŸ™‚

  • Ulysses - “Formidable”!! You know what? I like that word! I think it very appropriately describes the quiet power of this image.February 19, 2007 – 10:34 AM

  • Marie & Sal - This one is tres formidable! Very nice you two!February 19, 2007 – 10:32 AM

  • Ulysses - Oui, oui, Stephanie! hahahah! I know what you mean. Jerry kept asking me to “dial down” the smiles so that he could create something entirely different than my USUAL self. It took a little while to resist my natural inclination. This is one of my favorites because here I have this beautiful woman lying across my lap in her vintage clothing, shoes, and fur. And I look as if this sort of thing happens every day! πŸ˜€

    Cracks me up!February 19, 2007 – 10:10 AM

  • Stephanie - It almost bugs me out to see so many pictures of Ulysses without those pearly whites. Tres sophistique! Love the attitude and the wardrobe… makes me think old school gangster.February 18, 2007 – 8:55 PM

We interrupt our regularly scheduled daily excursions to Paris to bring you this incredible engagement session, brought to you by Ulysses & Jenni of Ulysses Photography.

Gina & Michael are the sweetest couple you’d want to meet. Both of them have an avid interest in music and even attended school in upstate New York to study music. So, with two lovely and artistically inclined people in our lenses, we positively could not go wrong! Since Gina was already out of school since December, and Michael still has a few months to go, they hadn’t seen one another in some time. So the easy chemistry between them was wonderful to see, making them very natural. The camera just loved them, and so did we. We had a real blast and can’t wait to show them the complete gallery of photos, which will be available very soon in the “Client Proofs” area of our main website.

For now, here is one of our favorites from their e-session. Once the complete gallery is available, we’d love to hear your comments about some of your own favorites. To do so, just click on the “Comments” icon immediately below this blog entry. πŸ™‚

Our trip through Paris will resume on the morning of February 18. πŸ˜‰

  • Ulysses - Some additional info on this photo: We love shooting in infrared (IR). We often use it a little differently than many photographers in that I don’t really care if we have a lot of foliage around (which is usually viewed as the ideal circumstances for shooting IR… of course the dead of winter will leave us short on foliage). For me, an IR camera is just another camera, and I love its dreamy effect on faces.

In this particular photo, I loved the soft and yet playful look in Gina’s eyes, which just seem to pull you into the emotion of the photo. And yet it’s still a private moment, as Michael seems almost unaware that someone else is looking in. The closeness between them is beautiful.February 19, 2007 – 10:14 AM

Dancing down by the Seine River“I feel good!” or perhaps “You make me feel like dancin’!” or I could go with “Dancin’ Machine!” However we choose to title this one, it just makes me laugh every time I look at this photo. πŸ™‚

We were still walking by the Seine River, and Jerry asked me to “Dance!!” I don’t know if it was just the wind or the fact that I didn’t comprehend his *extremely* simple request (hahah!). He shouted again above the wind, “I need you to dance your heart out!” So I started to improvise as best as I could. Let me tell you, I never felt so silly, but the results in the pictures made me look like a dancin’ genius! Jenni was off-camera and laughing hysterically, but that’s okay. My best moves are yet to be seen! πŸ˜€

Please, keep the comments flowing. We’re really enjoying your feedback on these photos. We’re always excited about bringing this same sense of freedom, fun, and creativity to your own pictures!

  • Jamee and Jeff - Ulysses, I’d be happy to teach you a few tap steps for your next “dancing debut.” I would call this photo a tribute to the greats…Gene Kelli, Fred Astaire, Gregory Hines, Xavien Glover…some of my favorites…February 24, 2007 – 9:44 PM

  • Marie & Sal - Very cool Ulysses! I feel the greatness of happines, success and the freedom to dance it all out loud!February 19, 2007 – 10:25 AM

  • Ulysses - Hahahah!! Thanks, Nicole, but after this performance, I may have to keep all of my next performances in Paris! πŸ˜€February 19, 2007 – 10:08 AM

  • Nicole - I can’t wait to see some more smooth moves!February 17, 2007 – 1:50 PM

A walk down the Seine RiverFrench couisine is everything that you’ve heard it would be — flavorful, filling, and beautifully presented. In fact, one of the most enjoyable features of Paris was checking out the various cafes and dining experiences. Yumm! Never feeling at all rushed, we were able to enjoy our meals at our leisure, and sit for long conversations while watching the rest of Paris pass by our windows.

After a delicious meal, what could be more lovely than an evening walk to the Seine River? When we got there, what a view we had! — expansive palaces, parks, the Eiffel Tower with its rotating beam of light, and other landmarks, all marvelously lit to show off their art and architecture. This photo was taken by international traveler and award winning photographer, David Beckstead, whose loose and relaxed style was perfectly suited to this slow romantic stroll down the river.

  • Ulysses - Marie, it was just beautiful out there. It’s amazing what the camera picks up when it comes to light, as compared with the human eye. Certain things just jump into view. It was actually quite dark and windy out near the river. This scene was lit only by the occasional lighting there on the boardwalk, and by the palace and other buildings across the Seine River. But it was enough to add this really cool cinematic feel to the whole thing.February 17, 2007 – 8:39 AM

  • Marie & Sal - Wow, what a beautiful shot and neat lighting. Very nice!!February 16, 2007 – 4:20 PM

There is a dark underground tunnel giving pedestrians access to the base of the Arc de Triomphe. This tunnel served as the location for our next fashion session. The concrete texture of the walls provided texture, and the low lighting provided a sense of mystery.

I love the look of longing in Jenni’s green eyes, juxtaposed against my mostly hidden features in this image. A sense of the luxury of times gone by is conveyed by her fur stole as well as the black hat. What is she supposed to be thinking here? And where am I going? That’s the fun of it, and I love making up stories in my own mind when it comes to images like this. Sometimes during our engagement sessions or our brides’ fashion sessions, we’ll ask you to pose a certain way perhaps because we’re “creating a story” with your pictures.

Make up your own story about this photo and share it with us by leaving a comment! πŸ™‚

  • Ulysses - Ahhhh, yes… πŸ˜€

“A man of high character”…… “the love of her life”…. I’m enjoying all of these words because OBVIOUSLY Jenni is going to be the center of attention in all the photos! I’ve got to scrape together as many of her crumbs as I can. Hahahah! πŸ˜€

She was just gorgeous in each and every shot she took. Jenni is NOT a fan of the cold and the wind, so some of these don’t at all reflect how much work she put into the sessions. But that’s a good thing! A great photo simply shows the beauty and none of the work. πŸ™‚February 21, 2007 – 12:50 PM

  • Nicole - I see a woman longing for the love of her life. They have just spent the day together and now he must leave, but she is not disapointed, she is joyful that they were able to share a short romatic interlude.February 17, 2007 – 1:48 PM

  • Marie & Sal - I see a beautiful exquisite women enchanted by a man of high character. Sometimes you only need to see so much to grasp an intense moment. Simply lovely!February 16, 2007 – 1:14 PM

  • Ulysses - Jesyca, you know what’s interesting? I could SO see you and Bill doing this shot together… very 1940s Hollywood in feel. πŸ™‚

Looking forward to hearing more good news from you guys!February 16, 2007 – 12:19 AM

  • Jesyca & Bill - Wow & double wow! How utterly glam! You guys look so cool & mysterious! Its wonderful to see someone catch you guys the way you catch all your clients (us included). We will have to chat about your trip, I’m dying to hear more!February 15, 2007 – 8:13 PM

  • Ulysses - Oh, you’re not going to get away that easily, because Jenni and I both KNOW that you’re a great story teller and maker-upper, Jess. C’mon, look again and tell us a short story. πŸ™‚February 15, 2007 – 4:16 PM

  • Jessica Johnston - I don’t have a story, but Jenni, you look so fab!

    great chatting with you this morning!February 15, 2007 – 2:08 PM

Paris has the well-deserved reputation of being the “city of love”. Nearly everywhere we walked, we saw couples holding hands, touching affectionately, or kissing. We don’t know what it is, exactly, but there’s definitely something about this city that takes hold of you and sweeps you away in its romantic embrace.

You would never imagine a long climb to the top of the Arc De Triomphe as the place for a fashion shoot, but it proved to be just perfect in setting the desired mood of isolation and privacy while the staircase itself seemed to wind into infinity. Of course, holding and kissing Jenni has never been a problem, making this session an ideal reward for climbing all 284 steps to the top of the monument. πŸ™‚

  • Ulysses - Heather, I think a lot of folks will agree with you. This photo is so unusual and captivating that you can’t help but be drawn to it. We’re really glad to hear that you’re enjoying them! πŸ™‚February 20, 2007 – 9:40 AM

  • Heather & Damian Dube' - This is our fav so far!! I Luv the movement of this image, you can’t help but feel the movement of it all, as if you’re falling & spinning right along with the two of you as you ‘fall & spin’ in the moment of your smooch πŸ™‚ How amazing all of these shots are! I’m just blown away by them! Keep em’ coming! Best to you guys – We miss you two! Heath & Damian πŸ˜‰February 20, 2007 – 1:05 AM

  • Ulysses - Stephanie & Brian, it is so good to hear from you! Oh my goodness, we were thrilled by your news of the baby. We have GOT to talk soon. Seriously. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Cory: We had a really good time with this one because due to our location compared with that of the photographer, we had NO IDEA what he was seeing. So when he showed us this picture, we exclaimed out loud, “Ohhhhhhhhhhh!!! Niiiiiiiiiice!!” And then we felt exactly like our couples feel when they see their own fab pictures. It was so cool being on the other side of the camera.

Marie: You’re cracking us up over here, lady. I had a feeling you’d enjoy all the French references here. πŸ™‚February 15, 2007 – 4:15 PM

  • Stephanie McCormack - What a captivating picture… I absolutely love it! You guys look amazing and the shot is incredible.February 15, 2007 – 1:21 PM

  • Ulysses - Thanks, guys, for all the kind comments and kudos! We’re so completely jazzed to share these with you guys. πŸ™‚

I wanted to answer the awesome questions from “Laetitia”:
First of all, a bride has spent all this time making herself look as glorious as possible. Our view is that you need to also invest time and effort with your photographer to now get pictures that will do justice to every other decision you’ve made. That way you have something unforgettable, dynamic, and that simply blows you away.

    1. Can the average Joe look like this? Well, call me “Average Joe”. A great photographer is going to help you feel comfortable and will use the light to your best advantage so that you look like a movie star. We like dramatic light and shadows for this cinematic effect. I call it “magazine quality” photography, like something you’d see in a VANITY FAIR Magazine. That’s what we really want for every bride.

    2. Am I going to need a whole film set and crew? No. Not the way we shoot. We use very little equipment and are quite nimble so that we can move around at will with minimal fuss. This makes the fashion and portrait session fun, energetic, and quick-moving. Other studios are more involved and meet the results that are their own hallmark. Our hallmark is in developing an intimate and enthusiastic relationship with our couples, and we think our photography shows that off. When we get to produce the sort of work that we like to produce, our brides and grooms are never disappointed.

    3. How much time do I need to budget? Simple answer: We’ll take as much as you can give us! To produce some of what we think will be your favorite photos from a fashion portrait session, I would not budget less one hour — independent of family and party formals. Some have given as much as two or three hours. After all, you will never have THIS time together again, so we might as well do something a-MAZ-ing, right? This is time alone with the couple — no other cameras, no videographer — so that you get something unique and special, as well as relaxing. Some couples have given us two hours. Some couples give us segments of time scattered throughout the day.

Interestingly, more and more couples are booking us for a completely separate session the next day after the wedding — we call this the “Morning After Session”. You can put on your gown and tux again, or some couples have a different change of clothing. And we can walk around the venue or around the town and just have a BLAST getting some really cool stuff without the pressure of the wedding day.

However you choose to find the time, it’s so worth it both to you and to the quality of the pictures that will result. Do not underestimate the power of great photography!

Excellent, excellent questions. We’d love for you guys to ask MORE! We’re happy to answer. πŸ™‚February 15, 2007 – 12:46 PM

  • Laetitia - Wow you too look great. On my wedding day those are the kind of photographs I want. After all It is not every day I buy a dress worth $…. It would be cool to look back at shoots like this. I can tast the passion and romance. So I have these questions:

1 Can an average Joe look like this?
2 Am I going to need a whole film set and crew?
3 How much time do I need to budget? At the moment I’m think around 1 to 1 1/2 hours is this realistic?February 15, 2007 – 8:29 AM

  • Andrea - Flawless…February 15, 2007 – 6:18 AM

Many of our readers know that we were excited to take a trip to London and Paris in January. The trip was part vacation and part work-related. During our time in Paris, we had the unique privilege of being photographed by multi-award winning photographer, Jerry Ghionis from Australia, who had asked us and our traveling companions, René & Melissa Tirado (also wedding photographers), to model for his European workshops. What an amazing opportunity to be inspired while being photographed, and the whole time taking in the wonders of Paris!

For the next week or so, we’re going to share with you one picture per day from our fashion shoot in Paris. These took place over the course of two very intense but completely enjoyable days of shooting. Hopefully these images will give you not only an idea of the passion and romance that can be found in this incredible city, but also convey just how stylishly playful great photography can be.

We’d definitely love to hear your comments on the photos. So please click on the “Comments” icon immediately below this entry, and give us a shout! πŸ™‚

Our first photo was taken on a fifth-story corner balcony of our hotel. It was very windy and quite chilly out there, but we were so excited about this start to our sessions that it really didn’t matter. As I gazed out towards the Arc de Triomphe, the wind provided a bit of movement to Jenni’s hair and fur stole. Jerry asked us to adopt a little attitude, ignoring and yet feeling drawn to one another at the same time.

  • Ulysses - Hi there, gang! We love reading the descriptions of your impressions of the photographs. Love, tension, glamor, moodiness… each a separate impression and yet all seen in one photo. You’ve got to love it! We sure did. πŸ™‚

Jerry is a master at what he does. Hanging with him, along with a crew of other fantastic photographers in Paris was exhilarating.

Eddie: we want to make Italy one of our next stops. But we can’t yet decide which city! We may have to get your help on this.

Mary Ann: I heard the awesome news about your baby! Man, that is so exciting to hear! We want to photograph you guys and the baby. I’m really sorry we may not be able to shoot a maternity session for you with you guys all the way down South. But let us know if you’re going to be up here before the delivery, and we’ll try to schedule something if you like! We have lots of great ideas.

Liz, thanks so much for the referrals. We love shooting out there in Massachusetts. It’s like a second home for us. And if we got to see you guys again, all the better!

Anyway,….I really enjoyed working with you both at the weddings that we had together last year and am looking forward to Rosanna’s Labor Day wedding. I laughed when I saw that she took your anniversary photo! She is great isn’t she??

So thanks for a great Friday evening of surfing your art! See you both soon. All my best,

Having recently returned from a trip to Europe, we’ve definitely got the bug for travel! It’s a good thing we’re photographers because often we find that travel is simply part of the joy of what we do. Our couples agree: Those that commission us are also willing to expend themselves just a little bit to travel to our studio, where they can see our incredible album samples, large wall prints, and enjoy some relaxed conversation as we begin building our relationship with them from the very moment we invite them in. The results in the photos are so worth that first meeting together. For those who don’t have the option of meeting us in person, we’re happy to take care of your needs via phone and email.

Whether your wedding is on the North Fork of Long Island, out in the middle of Pennsylvania, in the beautiful region of Saratoga Springs or the Finger Lakes region in upstate NY, or in the Boston and New England area, we’re happy to join you to shoot your wedding! The variety of places we go
definitely bring local flavor to your experience and to the pictures.

We’ve often joked that the farthest we’ll travel is Australia. And it’s true! So if you have some truly spectacular plans for your wedding, but think that it’s too distant for us to travel… or for you to meet us… think again. You won’t find anyone else as happy to be there with you to shoot your wedding.

Its your wedding. It’s our planet. Let’s take beautiful pictures together. πŸ™‚

We were overjoyed by the time and priority that Evelyn & Michael gave to photography, and the results really shine in their photos. They recently received their album. Here is what she writes about the wedding book and their experience with Ulysses Photography:

Hi Jenni and Ulysses! We received the wedding book and what we have to say is…we knew it would be beautiful. We knew it would be elegant. We knew that it would be masterful. But we did not know it would be so grand. It is truly a book to behold. Our wedding day comes to life from those pages. It is a book to behold and protect. It is our very own treasure and it will be treasured by us and our family for the rest of our lives. What more can we say than to thank you once again for your talent, hard work, and endless enthusiasm for our special day. We could not have asked for more.

I do have to say that though our wedding day was a day of pure love and joy for us and though we thoroughly enjoy being married, having the wedding be over is a bit bittersweet for we do not get to see or spend more time with the two of you. Having the two of you as our photographers enhanced our entire wedding experience–throughout all the planning and preparation, the engagement session, before, during, and after the wedding ceremony. All of it, in its entirety was all the more fun, all the more special, and all the more memorable with the both of you, because of the both of you. That was truly unexpected and deeply appreciated. We will simply have to find new reasons to have our paths cross again in the future! We definitely have been and will be recommending you to any and all who are looking for wedding photographers.

We can’t thank Evelyn & Michael enough for the enjoyable day we spent with them. Hearing words like these motivates us for each and every wedding we shoot.

More with Evelyn + Michael.

Those of you who read this blog regularly know that Jenni and I have been through some difficult times recently. But besides the incredibly supportive friends that we’ve had around us to lift us up and support us, we’ve had some beautiful couples that have delighted us with their warmth and fun personalities, allowing us to create gorgeous images for their weddings and their engagement sessions. What a tremendous boost you guys have been for us! More on that in another post….

We kicked off our 2007 year with a trip to Europe, one that we’ve been wanting to take for a long long time, and it turned out to be no better time for it — we went to London and Paris, and finished up by attending a photography workshop with our close friend and multiple award-winning wedding photographer from Australia, Jerry Ghionis, in the town of Manchester, UK.

We’re brimming with images and ideas after this incredibly inspiring trip. More than a vacation, it was a chance to just sit back and breathe and reflect and to also look forward. We can’t wait to tell you more about it.

For now, we still have a lot of unpacking and organization to take care of. But we’ll be in touch real soon with some images and experiences from the trip. Thanks to all of you for waiting for some new stuff from us! Drop us a note by clicking on the “Comments” link immediately below. πŸ™‚

Megan & Paul’s wedding day had finally arrived! Their engagement session seems like it happened only yesterday. After we met some friends of the family at her parents’ home, Megan came up to greet us and tell us about how the day was going. She was gorgeous in her gown by Eugenia Couture, with flowers provided by Cadden’s Florist. The excitement was palpable, and we got right to work to capture everyone’s excitement. It was fantastic being there with them.

Paul and his groomsmen were at the church, putting the finishing touches on their tuxedos and accessories. While we’re accustomed to seeing Paul as the picture of calm, we could tell that he was just as anxious to begin the ceremony as anyone.

Following the ceremony, we spent some private time with Megan & Paul for photos at the Lackawanna Station Hotel, a place known for its grand historic beauty and excellent dining (thank you so much, Megan & Paul for the delicious meal. And a thanks to the exemplary service of the staff there). Paul LaBelle and The Exact Change provided live musical entertainment for young and old alike and did a fantastic job.

With all of their closest friends present and sharing in the joy of the event and treating us just like family, it was a true privilege not only to observe the faces and emotions there, but to show Megan & Paul how their day looked through our eyes. We can’t wait to show them the full gallery of images.

We would love to hear about some of your favorite moments from the day, or your kind words for Megan & Paul. Click the “comments” link immediately below to share your thoughts. The complete gallery will be made available shortly, so keep your browsers pointed to the “Client Proofs” area of our main website.
