Kristie & Joel’s Engagement

We had so much fun with Kristie & Joel that it would be difficult for us to call this one work. In fact, if anyone was working the camera, it was THEM! They gave us so many different looks that we could have photographed them for much longer than we did. From the very start, they were very comfortable with the cameras clicking away, and we all quickly fell into a good rhythm for their e-session. Conditions were also perfect for some stunning infrared photos. We think they’ll be blown away by them. :)

We cannot wait for their wedding at the V.I.P. Country Club so we can spend some private time with them again for photos.

Their gallery will be posted very soon in the “Client Proofs” section of our main website, so keep your browsers ready! And we’d love to hear from friends and family with comments on your favorites by clicking the “Comments” link below. :)

Tiffany’s Graduation Portraits

When Tiffany graduated from college, her mom wanted to do something really special for her. So she commissioned us to take Tiffany out for an afternoon photo shoot. We started out with the prerequisite cap and gown shots (Tiffany wisely opted NOT to wear the cap, but simply hold it), then very quickly moved on to the fun stuff. Tiffany was a natural and easily fell into her favorite poses from America’s Next Top Model. :-D

We’re so happy for Tiffany and know she’s got an incredibly bright future ahead. We can’t wait for her to see the full gallery of portraits. These will be available very soon in the “Client Proofs” area of our main website.

Nicole & Jeff’s E-Session

Ulysses and I were so excited to finally meet Nicole and Jeff, as they booked us from all the way in Virginia. They made the long drive up, and we were happy to get together for their engagement session in a beautiful park. Nicole has a million-dollar smile, and Jeff cuts a strong figure of support, so we really enjoyed their session. We had some laughs when we were in the middle of the session and the lawn sprinklers turned on (now we know what happens when we stay in the park after hours!). But it was all worth it, and we think the results are fabulous.

We really look forward to their wedding this fall at the Woodcliff Lake Hilton. Please enjoy this preview photo while we prepare the rest of their proof gallery, which will be available shortly in “Client Proofs” on our main website.

Sarah & Greg’s Wedding

Sarah & Greg’s wedding day turned out even better than they had originally planned. We were so happy for them and the way their choices worked out. Sarah was positively glowing and looked so radiant in her gown when we found her and her maid-of-honor, Tahl, at their hotel room. We spent a little time catching up and enjoyed chatting while Sarah finished dressing, and then it was off to a lovely park to take some fashionable portraits with her groom-to-be. The time we spent with them for this private session was so well worth it, and it really shows in the photos. They were fantastic together.

Here’s a brief preview so you can see what we saw during our session with them. To start the slideshow, just press the “PLAY” button.

Sarah & Greg, you couldn’t have had a more beautiful day. Thanks so much for taking such good care of us, too. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with you and your family.

We know you can’t wait to see the photos, so the complete gallery should be up soon in the “Client Proofs” section of our main website. We’d love to hear your thoughts about your favorite images by clicking the “Comments” link immediately below this blog entry. :)

Gina & Michael’s Wedding

Gina and Michael are among the sweetest people we’ve ever met. It’s been such an incredibly busy year for them, and they couldn’t wait to finally be married. Their eagerness for the arrival of this day made it especially enjoyable to spend the day shooting with their wedding. Following the ceremony, we found time to steal away with them for a photo shoot near the Hudson River. Gina is an avid reader of our blog, and it sometimes seemed she knew exactly what we wanted to do before we even said a word! We loved our time with the two of them.

I know there are lots of family and friends waiting to preview some of their photos, so without saying anything further, click the “PLAY” button below to begin the brief show.

Gina and Michael, thanks so much for including us in such a beautiful day. :)

Their complete gallery will be available within the next few days in the “Client Proofs” section of our main website. The short wait will be well worth it! Feel free to leave a comment or two by clicking the “Comments” link immediately below. We want this to be an interactive experience for all of you. :)

Our Couples of 2006!

This post is so belated that I’m almost ashamed. But that’s not going to stop me from talking about the incredible couples that we had the privilege of working with over the year of 2006. You are the reason we love doing what we do. You stimulated us, challenged us, motivated us — but most of all, you trusted us. We hope you’re continuing to enjoy your engagement and wedding photos, whether in prints, in art folios or in books.

We’re going to rave about you through a brief slideshow showcasing YOU — our couples of 2006. Click the image below to take you to your slideshow.

We would love to hear back from each of you to let us know how you’re doing. Drop us a note by clicking on the “Comments” link immediately below.

Ospreys on Long Island!

Our most recent wedding took us out to the beautiful North Fork of Long Island. Following the wedding, we stayed overnight at the refreshing Stirling House Bed & Breakfast. On our drive back upstate, Jenni pointed towards some trees a couple hundred yards away and said, “Is that a hawk?!?” I just barely caught a glimpse of the raptor in the trees, but I knew even from a distance that it was rather large for a hawk. So we turned the car around to get a closer look.

Since our camera gear was in the trunk, she got out my long lens, and I tried to focus as quickly as I could for a closer look. Sure enough, it wasn’t a hawk at all - it was an osprey (also called a sea eagle in some regions). Long Island is rather known for the springtime return of osprey pair, who raise their chicks before migrating south again. Sometimes they’ll winter as far as South America. Check out this site for more information on Long Island ospreys.

Here are some photos of our feathered friend. In one frame, you can even see the osprey’s mate sitting in the nest. My guess is that they’re either brooding with a few eggs in the nest or else protecting some hatchlings. We love bird watching, and this is our first time actually seeing an osprey in the wild. They’re beautiful creatures! :)

Katherine & Anthony’s Wedding

The day had finally arrived for Katherine & Anthony’s wedding! It was an incredibly beautiful day at her parents’ house on the North Fork of Long Island. Everything about the day was perfectly suited to their sensibilities and choices. While Anthony was downstairs getting into his kilt and adjusting accessories, Katherine was upstairs putting on the finishing touches to her exquisite gown. Their little daughter had such a pleasant personality, as if all the activity was meant just for her. Family and close friends (some from as far away as Germany) were treated to a wedding that felt cozy, intimate, and yet very elegant.

You’ll no doubt enjoy the beauty and fun of the day, and you’ll smile at the antics of their little nephews in the photos. The full gallery will be available very soon in the “Client Proofs” area of our main website. But for now, here is a preview of a few highlights from the day. There are plenty more to come! Drop us a note via the “Comments” link below the slideshow. We’re sure Katherine and Anthony would love to hear from you, too. :)

Kelly & David’s E-session

Kelly & David engagement 01We couldn’t have asked for a better day than the one we shared with Kelly and David. It threatened to thunderstorm (and in fact poured in their own area). But by the time we arrived to meet them at a beautiful paradise-like park chosen by Kelly, the sun was out, and we had our pick of places to photograph with them. Kelly was gorgeous, having had hair and makeup done especially for this session. And David wasn’t doing too bad either. Both were truly excited about their photo session, as were we. :)

Our first spot to shoot was at the site of a 300-year-old tree that had fallen to the ground a year ago. Kelly discovered it during one of her walks through the woods. It made a perfect platform for them to sit and snuggle, its textures creating a perfect juxtaposition for the real focus of the photo - their affection for one another. After warming up at that spot, we wandered the park and simply had fun in flower beds, fields, and anywhere else that seemed to invite us. We can’t wait to show them their beautiful gallery of photos. We get just as excited as the couple to see the results from sessions as enjoyable as these. :)

The gallery will be available very soon in the “Client Proofs” area of our main website. We’d love to hear about your favorites if you’d like to comment on them. :)

Ulysses, Jenni, and Walls

Ulysses at sunsetWe often joke with couples that we can shoot a fantabulous photo even with nothing to work with other than a broken-down brick wall - or in the case shown to the left, a corrugated wall (insert your own fantabulous selves into photo).

Don’t laugh… some of you may see this wall again! :-D

Jenni at sunsetIt’s true! Please don’t get me wrong - we love beautiful scenery as much as any photographer. But we’ve also found that the images that grab our couples hearts are those where the real focus is their affection and love displayed as honestly as possible, regardless of the exact choice of scenery. A beautiful location devoid of marvelous light will not make for a great photo; whereas a photographer using a less-than-desirable location with fantastic light is going to create images that will just blow you away.

That’s the way we do it, and we know you’ll love your photos for that consistent vision.

Bride’s Mom Reports Back!

Lauren’s momNews alert!!

For all you brides who are having trouble convincing your moms to allow you to be adventurous with your dress, and all of you who are nervous about getting that gorgeous gown wet, dirty, or otherwise contaminated… Lauren’s mom (Lauren is our famous tubing bride) left this comment for us on TrashTheDress.com:

To Jenni, Ulysses, and everyone else: I took Lauren’s gown to the dry cleaners (it smelled a little fishy) and when it was completely dry they cleaned it and it came out fine!!! So….my advice to all you brides is HAVE A GREAT TIME, ENJOY LIFE AND HAVE FUN!!
Lauren’s mom,
LIZ

We’re on “Trash The Dress”!

Lauren and Justin at Giorgios’s, Long Island - Infrared photography“Something old, something new” - It’s a familiar expression. The old tradition of keeping the wedding gown spotless and untouched has been with us for ages. That’s understandable, considering the expense that usually goes into making the bride look her best. But then the gown was vacuum-packed and stored in an attic, never to be seen again. What a shame, we say! However, a growing NEW tradition is causing excitement among some adventurous couples who want as much mileage out of their wedding attire as possible for something spontaneous, celebratory, liberating, fashionable, unique, and totally INCREDIBLE for their photos. We’re enthused about this, because we’ve been doing it for years with our couples!

A new website called Trash The Dress (the name alone cracks us up!) regularly hosts images from photographers around the globe who are producing some awesome images for their couples. Many of these photographers are our friends and colleagues. So you can imagine our excitement at having our images shown there, as well. Check out the story and enjoy the looks on the couples’ faces! It’s about more than simply having fun trashing the dress; you can end up with some of the most beautiful and heart-stopping images of your entire album. Some couples make a second album with this unbelievable session.

We’re so happy to have several upcoming wedding and engagement sessions like this. If you (or anyone you know) enjoy this concept for your own wedding or bridal photos — or even a photo session some weeks after the wedding — contact us ASAP, and we’d be happy to explore more ideas with you. We’ve got a ton of them! :)

Here are some images from one of our past “Morning After” sessions with Nicole & Mike. Click any of the thumbnails below to see larger versions. Enjoy! :)

Amanda & Jason’s E-session

Amanda & Jason’s e-session (01)Our weekend was a full one, and we rounded it out with an awesome engagement session with Amanda & Jason. This was actually our first time meeting them, as they had booked us long-distance some time ago. But once we got together for this perfect Spring evening, it was as if we’d known them for years. Since the sunlight would rapidly fall behind the hills along the Hudson River, we got to work immediately. The light was just perfect, exactly what we wanted for their session.

Amanda & Jason’s e-session (02)We talked throughout the entire session, getting to know one another better. Almost everyone feels nervous their first time working with a professional photographer, but these two were simply naturals. And that was key to their session — keeping a natural flow to things, while at the same time providing a bit of style and romance to their session. The time they invested with us was so well worth it, and we know they’re going to be thrilled by the results. :)

Since the Onteora Mountain House is one of our favorite venues to shoot, we’re really looking forward to their wedding. It’s going to be on a beautiful autumn day.

The complete gallery is going to be available soon. Keep your browsers pointed to the “Client Proofs” area of our main website. We hope to hear what you think by clicking on the “Comments” icon below.

Rachel & Ross’ E-session

Rachel & Ross engagementOkay, I’m going to sound rather dorky for a moment, but when we got a call from “Rachel and Ross” about their wedding, I was as giddy as any fanboy from their names alone! Strange, right? Names can certainly have that effect :)

With the springtime air ushering in a burst of greenery and flowers, we were each excited about getting together again for their e-session. And Rachel and Ross each did an excellent job, allowing us to shoot to our hearts’ content. Just as exciting was Rachel’s mention that they would be bringing their two Wheaton terriers, who are an integral part of their family. The terriers had only recently been groomed and were excited to spend some time in the open fields. :)

The wedding will be at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan, only a few short months away. We can’t wait.

Until then, we can’t wait for Rachel & Ross to see their complete gallery, which will be available later today in the “Client Proofs” section of our main website. If you’re enjoying the pictures, want to send a note to Rachel and Ross, or if you simply love Wheaton terriers, drop us a note via the “Comments” link below. :-D

New Canvas Wrap Samples

Canvas sample 01We recently received new samples of our Canvas Wraps, and we know you’re going to love them! They truly help transform a beautiful picture into a work of art that you’ll want to display on your walls for years. The image is printed directly onto fine-textured canvas, and then the canvas is wrapped around a 1½” wood frame so that the image continues on all sides. A protective coating is applied, and these contemporary canvas photographs are ready to hang. They are available in any proof gallery under “Finish & Mounting Options”. If you need help finding them, or would like to see a sample in person, just let us know. And ask us about some really out-of-the-box ideas for even more dynamic displays using these beautiful canvas choices!
