Kim + Frank are an adorable couple. We gelled with them from the very first moment we met them. Having a common love for all things healthy and natural didn’t hurt. But it was their excitement about our photography that cemented the opportunity to produce a very organic set of photos for our first session together. We can’t wait to join them for their wedding at the lovely Catlin Gardens.

Frank and I met in the spring.  Our first few dates took place outside by the water, with flowers and lots of greenery.  We fell in love in the summer, going to Mets games and taking long walks in the sun.  Then, we got engaged above a snowy New York City in January.  The only time of year left unmarked for us was autumn, so when I met Ulysses and Jenni, I immediately knew I wanted to do a fall themed engagement photo session.  

My vision for the photo shoot included golden leaves and gorgeous scenery, and so we decided on Benmarl Winery in Marlboro, NY as the destination for the shoot.  The winery sits in a quiet, nestled haven about the Hudson River, with majestic colorful mountains in the background.  As soon as we arrived at the photo shoot, I knew it was the perfect location.  The day was cold and overcast, but Ulysses and Jenni inspired Frank and I to stay close together during the shoot.  The romantic and quiet atmosphere allowed us to act naturally and let our love for each other come through into every shot.  At the end of the shoot, Frank and I agreed that this day was our best and most romantic date since the day we got engaged.  

As excited as I am for our wedding day photos, I absolutely cherish the engagement photos shot at Benmarl Winery.  They reflect the love that Frank and I share for each other.  At the reveal, I was so impressed with the beauty of the photography.  My wall art piece hangs on my wall today, as a memory of this beautiful autumn day that Frank and I shared before our wedding.

Blake + Joe brought all the things we like to a photo shoot, most of all a sense of closeness and genuine affection. We’re truly eager to join them for their wedding at the beyond beautiful site of the Lyndhurst Mansion. Joe took the time to send some very kind words about their experience and how he and Blake wanted to share the photos with friends:

We wanted this photo shoot to show everyone how happy we are to be engaged. We also wanted to have great pictures to use for our wedding. We wanted to use this opportunity to get comfortable with both Ulysses and Jenni taking pictures of us. We had a lot of fun with the photo shoot. This was the first time either of us had an extended photo shoot at a location. In the beginning we were a little nervous and not really sure what to do. Both Ulysses and Jenni really put us at ease and allowed us to relax, which resulted in great pictures. 

We used pictures from this photo shoot to make a wedding guestbook. After receiving the book, we love the quality of the pictures and the overall quality of the book.

After our initial conversations with Erin, we were not only happily anxious to meet them for the first time, but also to show them just how much fun photography with us can be! It was a fantastic session, as this delightful couple got their “top model” on, with the outstanding NYC skyline as their backdrop. We’re really pumped about photographing their wedding at the Liberty Warehouse in 2012. Erin gave us her impressions of the photos in their own words:

When we told our wedding planner that we hated having our photos taken she immediately suggested Jenni & Ulysses.  And we’re so glad she did!

Ed and I are getting married in Brooklyn but live in Hoboken.  We wanted to have our engagement shots close to home and liked that Liberty State Park was on the “other side” of the water.  There were so many different back drop options to work with and some of my favorite photos from the day were taken in the old train station which Ulysses introduced us to- we had no idea it was even there!

We had a great afternoon with Jenni & Ulysses- they made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera and we were able to just enjoy each others company.  We didn’t know what to expect going into the reveal, were hoping for at least one photo for a Save the Date card and possibly a cute picture of Brady.  We were just thrilled with the photos they captured and had such a hard time narrowing it down!

We actually just received the canvases and wall art last week and I just love seeing the photos hanging in our home.  A great reminder of all the fun to come in the year ahead.

Not everyone is a jumper. However, Matthew + Naomi definitely are — or more specifically Matt is a jumper, completely willing to express his exuberance and exhilaration about Naomi with fantastical feats that fly against the fundamentals of physics!! We love Naomi’s stylishly sassy expression, too. The judges of the ISPWP took notice and awarded us a placement in the Engagement Portrait category. We’re jumping with almost as much ebullience as Matt himself!

When we have a couple as excited about working with us as Jackie + Nick, it gives us even more motivation than usual to produce the best work possible. They put a lot of thought into the look of their day, and it showed in their ease with us, as well as in their playful fun factor. We joined them at a favorite farm that Jackie and her family enjoy visiting. We practically had the entire place to ourselves, so we took good advantage of it. We were all thrilled when the cloudy skies actually began to open up with brilliant light just before the Sun set over the hills behind us, adding that extra touch of something special for their smiling faces (and for Jackie’s lustrous hair). We’re so glad they chose us, and we can’t wait to join them for their summer wedding at The Garrison.

We knew almost immediately that we wanted to photograph Juliana + Elie’s wedding! Their vision for their photographic experience runs parallel with our own. Knowing that Juliana is a designer for fashionable clothing added an extra element of anticipation for our session, too. Their fashionable choices were perfect for what we had in mind, and they simply allowed us to create. LOVE THAT! We joined them for a particularly beautiful day on a farm where we could explore the barn, enjoy some playful privacy in a teepee, take walks in the pasture, enjoy some warm intimate moments in the corn field, and have some romantic relaxation on some bales of hay. We couldn’t have asked for a better day, as everything simply clicked. We’re even more eager to join them soon for their winter wedding at the Roosevelt Hotel!

Nicole + Mike were engaged well before we started blogging about our couples. But because we’ve been so glad to keep close with them and their growing family over the years, we wanted to add a few of our favorites from our very first photo shoot with them. They love living on the lake, so we joined them on a beautiful day at a favorite place for some incredibly beautiful views and a ridiculously fun time. What an awesome adventure we’ve had with them from our very first meeting!

As soon as we met Amanda + Tony, we knew their photos would excite us and give us plenty of reasons to cheer. The cheering is still ongoing because now the the lovely blog, Sparkle & Hay, is taken by their charm and the whimsy of a session in a rowboat not even in the water. Although it was our first time meeting them face to face, it felt as if we’d known Amanda + William for quite some time. Meeting at the beach gave us a chance to watch a glorious sunset, followed by an equally majestic view of a thunderstorm headed out to sea. As we lazily walked along the shore, we were able to produce some beautiful images for them. A perfect evening. We can’t wait to photograph their winter wedding at Fox Hollow!

We could not be happier after having met Natalie + Will. They first heard about us through mutual friends whose wedding we recently photographed, and she immediately got in contact with us. Because they’re so busy planning their wedding long-distance from Washington D.C., Natalie asked if we’d be willing to join them for their engagement photos there in the heart of Washington D.C., and our answer was “OF COURSE! We’d love to!” We loved that we clicked right away with them, and they totally “got” what it was that we wanted to create for them. With the sunlight setting over the Potomac River, the light coming through the marble columns of the Lincoln Memorial was just perfect! For Natalie + Will, it was a fun date night as we explored some of their favorite areas – the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, and around The Mall. What a fabulous couple, so warm and friendly. And we have even more reason to look forward to their 2012 wedding at the Rockleigh Country Club.

When you wish for beautiful things to happen during a couple’s engagement photos session, they usually do. And beautiful things definitely happened for Sora + Alex! We couldn’t be happier for them than to see their warmth and affection displayed by the inspirational bridal blog, Borrowed & Bleu. We loved producing photos for these two. Check it out!

When we arrived to take Brooke & Dylan’s photos, we were greeted by a very large and curious Rottweiler behind the fence. No big deal. We knew in advance they had a Rottweiler. What we didn’t realize was that they have THREE very large Rottweilers. The closer we got to them, the larger we realized they were. Just massive (even larger than average for this breed)! But after a couple of very loud, hot sniffs at us, they decided we were okay. Next thing you know, we had 450 lbs of dogs leaning on us, trying to sit on us, and just generally showing us how accepting they were of us. Just amazing, amazing dogs — and they LOVED having their photos taken! We would have taken them home with us if we could have found a way to fit them in our house. LOL! Despite our love for their Rotts, this session was really about Brooke & Dylan! We’d met them earlier as Brooke was a bridesmaid in the wedding of Melissa & Mark, another favorite of ours. So we already had a really great connection with them, which translated into some very, very cool moments during their session. What a beautiful couple. Their advance preparation for the session and genuine love for our photography made it a real joy to photograph them. We can’t wait for their autumn wedding at Onteora Mountain House.

We can’t even tell you how absolutely jazzed we are about being chosen as Elissa + Brian’s photographers. We have such a history with them that we felt like part of their family since our earliest discussions with them about their wedding (Elissa was a bridesmaid in Annie & Jason’s wedding and has attended at least a few others we’ve photographed, and Brian is brother to Eric, whose wedding with Kimberly we photographed). When you see listen to them together, you can easily tell just how amazingly well matched they are in their interests, tastes, and in their love for one another. We know Elissa + Brian’s wedding at The Garrison is going to be truly special for us, as well as for all their family and friends.

We loved hanging out with Katie + Chris in NYC’s scenic Central Park. Katie had previously seen us at no less than two of her friends’ weddings, so we had great chemistry with the two of them nearly instantly. But what really thrilled us was Katie + Chris’ constantly entertaining interaction with one another. It didn’t matter who or what was happening around them. And it didn’t even matter that we got completely drenched in an afternoon downpour. We each laughed at the spontaneity of it all while Katie simply put on her rain boots for more photos and Chris kept a loving arm around her. A beautiful afternoon in NYC.

Katie & Steve brought not only their love for one another to their photo session, but they also came with Marley, their beautiful golden retriever. There was so much to love about this beautiful couple and their early springtime shoot. With the crocuses in bloom, gorgeous light, and this awesome threesome (Marley wouldn’t allow us to forget her larger-than-life personality), it was a perfect day for them to enjoy their date day together. We can’t wait to join them for their wedding day at the Venetian Yacht Club.

“A beautiful actress and dashing playwright first laid eyes on one another in the theater” — it sounds like the beginning of a wonderful story, doesn’t it? Well, it was exactly that for each of us. We had a ridiculously enjoyable time with Jessica & Ashlin (she really IS an actress, and he really IS a playwright). They pretty much gave us cart blanche throughout our time with them. Putting them on stage to share a spotlight, both literally and figuratively, seemed the ideal way to get their photo shoot, and all we had to do afterward was watch them go! It was such a joy to spend this valuable time with them, and we’re especially eager for their approaching autumn wedding day at Onteora Mountain House.

When Stacey was little, she seems to remember thinking to herself: “Someday I’ll need an amusement park.” It was like Alen came in on a white merry-go-round horse and built a park just for her! He’s been working in construction on Coney Island and Luna Park, so it was the perfect place to go with this chic couple from Brooklyn. Since we had the entire place to ourselves, sometimes they could simply be kids again and reveal their whimsical sense of humor, and other times we saw their warm romantic side. Either way, it was their simple enjoyment of being together that made this session such a joy to photograph. We had a beautiful evening with them and can’t wait for their wedding at The Eagle’s Nest.

Our photo session with Naomi & Matt was actually the very first time we met with them in person. You might at first think they’d be shy and reserved with a couple of cameras suddenly pointed exclusively at them. But quite the opposite… we had a wonderful time getting to know them and talking about how much they are looking forward to their wedding day. Their connection with one another was obvious, and we’re even more excited to be their photographers for their upcoming summer wedding at Brooklake Country Club.

It was so exciting to meet Jenn & Clario for the first time! As it turned out, we ran into one another on our way to our predetermined meeting spot in Central Park. And they came bearing gifts in the form of Bubble Tea (our very first!) — a delicious drink for our warm Spring day that was just as delightful and refreshing as Jenn & Clario themselves. With Central Park and NYC as their backdrop and personal playground, we had a wonderful time getting to know them better while they put aside the books about mathematics and work, simply enjoying their date day together. Clario even pulled out a guitar to serenade Jenn with some soft music. Awesome! We can’t wait to join them this summer for what promises to be a beautiful wedding day at the Statler Hotel on the grounds of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.

We always enjoy ourselves when visiting the waterfront in Hoboken, NJ. So it was made doubly enjoyable when we met Amanda & Aaron there to get to know them better and to enjoy a fabulous engagement photo session with them. With the Sun setting behind us, we had an insanely fun time with them as we watched NYC across the Hudson River come alive with its millions of city lights. We are more eager than ever to join them very soon for their wedding day at Maritime Parc.
