A Very Special Maternity Session

It’s not every day that you get to do a maternity session with your closest friends. Jasmine is like a sister to me, so I’ve been watching her belly closely to see when it was time to photograph it. She and Josh are warm and loving people, and little Arianna is going to have the very best parents. Ulysses and I can’t wait to meet her, and we have our hospital bag packed and ready for the day. :)

In fact, every time I see her, I tell Arianna she needs to come out on a Monday, so that I can definitely be there. Jasmine likes to say that Arianna is going to come out thinking her name is Monday … Enjoy the photos, and please feel free to leave your comments for us or for the expectant parents.

Introducing Olivia!

Get ready for the cutest cheeks you’ve ever seen! Ulysses and I had so much fun with Olivia, as she gave us a tour of her yard, showing us all the flowers she planted, the trees she could climb, and the bugs she was afraid of. An energetic little lady of great style, Olivia is almost constantly moving from one place and topic to another. We had a blast following her around and finding beautiful little moments that showed her personality. Enjoy the photos!

Why We Love What We Do

Since before we even met her, Andrea has been one of our biggest fans. When we read words like the ones she recently sent to us upon delivery of her wedding album, it reinforces our desire to do our best for each of our incredible couples.

I wanted to call you, but it’s very hard to speak when you’re hysterical crying!!! I just didn’t think I could cry again. But, I did. My album is just stunning and perfect! I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!!! You are so incredibly talented and amazing. I am far beyond honored that you partook in our wedding day. I am mostly honored to call you two friends. My friends did an amazing job on our album. You can see the love that was put into the pictures. I love you guys and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect keepsake.

Now, onto my [print]…PERFECTION!!!!!!! I couldn’t have asked for something more breathtaking. It is absolutely beautiful. I already put it in our Frame. I love it so much!!! I knew which picture to choose and I knew that you should choose how it would look. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. We love you both a great deal and meeting you was just the beginning to an everlasting friendship!!

Love,
Andrea and Frank

Andrea and Frank, you took our breath away during both your wedding and your photo shoot. We’re so gratified to have been a part of it. Hugs from me and Ulysses!

Come Out From Behind That Camera!

Ulysses and I were so honored to be asked by Jen Cassaro of Masterpiece Video to take some portraits of her and her assistant for her website! We’ve really enjoyed working with Jen and Alyssa over the years. We know they have skill behind their cameras, so we were looking forward to getting them in front of ours! :)

They both prepared well for the session by getting gorgeous makeovers by Marisa Verdi (whom our faithful readers already know about), so all that was left was to bring out some of their fun personalities. Jen’s lovable companion, Sophie, was so cute and had no problem getting in on the action, too. Here are a few previews, and the rest of the gallery is now available in the “Client Proofs” area of our main site. Enjoy, and please feel free to leave your comments.

Victoria & Steven’s Engagement

Ulysses and I were so excited to finally meet Victoria & Steven! We had spoken extensively on the phone, and we just knew we were going to have a great time with them. This adorable couple were all sugared up from a cake tasting before their session, and literally had us laughing all the way through. :) They also have the neatest story about how they met … over their love of cappuccino! They are both serious cappuccino aficionados and reviewers on yelp.com. They had been reading each other’s reviews for months, and then finally met at a Yelp event. They’ve been together ever since! So naturally, there will be a coffee theme at their upcoming July wedding.

Enjoy this preview while we prepare the rest of their gallery, which will be available soon on our main website under “Client Proofs,” and please feel free to post your comments.

Proud to “Style Me Pretty”!

Style Me Pretty logo

There are lots of bridal blogs out there. But I have to say that one of the most impressive and stylishly-created resources available for brides is the Style Me Pretty site. When I first saw it, I was so excited to see their depth of coverage on various topics like choosing your color palette, unique fashion and presentation, how-to ideas, paper goods, inspiration boards, and so many other areas related to your wedding. Another great feature is their Little Black Book, an exlusive “one-stop source for the best wedding vendors in your city.” Ulysses and I are especially honored and totally excited to have been selected for inclusion in their short list of photographers for the Lower Hudson Valley of New York.

Little Black Book blurbThe Style Me Pretty site is also listed in Martha’s Circle, which is Martha Stewart’s own short list of favorite blogs to visit. If you’re looking for some of the very best photographers, vendors, or inspiration for your wedding, Style Me Pretty is definitely the place to visit! Keep them bookmarked in your browser or news reader.

Kind Words From Andrea

Andrea & Frank were the amazing couple that closed out our 2007 wedding season with a fabulous December wedding at the mansion estate of Skylands Manor. We knew from our very first meeting that Andrea would be a beautiful bride that we had to photograph, and that together she and Frank would be people who would always be very special to us. She recently sent the following note, which touched our hearts so much that we just had to share:

How are you? How is Ulysses??? How is everything? Before I get into my question, I just needed to tell you that I look at my pictures every day, and every day that I look at them I love you guys more and more and I just wanted to thank you again from the bottom of my heart for capturing the most amazing pictures on my wedding day. I have come to realize I am a girl of many expressions, and I find that cool ;-)

Now to my question, I am in a huge conflict with myself and I really can’t pick out my Thank you’s. You guys make it impossible to choose :-)

So, here are the ones I am torn between, and let me know if you have any suggestions, as well.

Andrea

Aren’t they the coolest couple?? Andrea’s final choice was the gorgeous image seen at the top of this blog entry. It’s one of our absolute favorites from their day because of its warm romantic mood and because of the inspiration from classic films of decades gone by. Click it to see it in better detail!

Andrea, you and Frank are, quite simply, amazing people. You inspire us with your passion for one another. We’re incredibly honored to know that you follow our blog regularly to keep up with the latest happenings with Jenni and myself.

Vivian & Anna’s Maternity Sessions

We had such a good time photographing Vivian and Anna’s maternity sessions! And it’s the first time we’ve photographed two sisters for their maternity sessions. Both of them extremely beautiful, we loved the way their individual personalities played out during the photo shoot. So we wanted to share a few more images from their incredibly fun day of shooting.

Just click the PLAY button in the box below to begin the brief slideshow.

I honestly didn’t know where to begin choosing - we loved so many of their photos. But there will be LOTS more beauty and fun to be enjoyed in their complete galleries, available soon in the “Client Proofs” area of our main website.

Anna & Jonathan’s Maternity Teaser

We couldn’t believe it when we heard that Anna was pregnant at the same time as her sister, Vivian! She’s only about a month behind Vivian. So when we made plans for Vivian & John’s maternity session, we knew we had to have a maternity session for Anna & Jonathan, as well. This was going to be an incredible day of shooting!

Anna met us at Vivian & John’s home, and she brought along with her a few really cute changes of clothing so we’d have some fun and variety with the session. Not that it was needed - she and Jonathan are a complete blast together and made the shooting so much fun. They kept changing it up for us and were completely uninhibited in front of the camera.

Anna & Jonathan, we captured so many different looks for you, and I think you’re going to be completely blown away by how gorgeous you look. It was a complete joy to photograph the two of you again. I’ll be placing up another teaser to show a random selection of images from the entire day of shooting. Look for it soon!

Anna & Jonathan’s entire gallery will be available shortly in the “Client Proofs” area of our main website. Stay tuned!

We Won Photo of the Week!

I don’t know how we forgot to mention this one. We got a really cool thumbs-up from the publishers of Wedding Blog Awards, a site “dedicated to finding and promoting valuable wedding blogs; be they bride blogs, groom blogs, or wedding vendor blogs.” They found our blog and spied the photo on the left from Kimberly & Eric’s engagement session, and awarded it Photo of the Week. We were honored because it’s also one of Kimberly & Eric’s own favorites (as well as one of our own). Along with the award, they commented:

There are so many great photos, along with great web design that makes visiting this site a pleasure! Don’t forget to subscribe to their blog.

So we’re having a sort of belated celebration by sharing just a few more photos from their awesome engagement session. We’ve known Kimberly for a few years now (having photographed several of her friends’ weddings). So as you can imagine, we’re jazzed about getting together again with this exciting couple for their wedding at the beautiful Catlin Gardens later this year.

We’ve Been Tagged!

And now for a bit of fun. We’ve been tagged by some of our favorite photographers on their blogs: The Bebbs, Tamara Lackey, Paul Johnson, and Teddi Maull. That means we’re supposed to list 8 facts that most people don’t know about us on our blog, and then tag 8 other photographers, who then have to do the same thing. Sounds like fun, right? So here we go. I’ll go first:

Jenni:

  1. I’m a health food nut. I could live on organic Fuji apples dipped in Skippy creamy peanut butter, with organic skim milk. I don’t eat everything organic, but some things definitely taste better, and apples and milk are two of them. I also love oatmeal made from steel cut oats. If you think you don’t like oatmeal but haven’t tried the steel cut, you must.
  2. I love mornings. I am totally a morning person. I could literally jump out of bed in the morning. I love that quiet time before the phone starts ringing, and I get so much done.
  3. As a kid I took ballet, jazz, tap, Tae Kwon Do, gymnastics, and piano. I loved all of it.
  4. Growing up, we had every kind of pet: Fish, gerbils, ducks, rabbits, dogs, cats, birds, and even those sea monkey things, but no, we didn’t live on a farm. However, we did once live across the street from cows and horses.
  5. I once trained some wild chickadees to eat out of my hand. They would actually call me from inside the house, and greet me when I came home. They all had different personalities, so we really got to know them individually. One was very nervous, and would always grab a seed and fly off so quickly that she would drop it. Another was very social, and would just hang out on my hand for a while before taking a seed. Another was greedy, and would always try to grab two and wind up dropping them both as it was flying off. I walked around with sunflower seeds in my pockets all the time.
  6. I’m passionate about fitness. I take spin, Pilates and strength training and have a personal trainer. Exercise is my happy pill and gives me tons of energy. I even work out before shooting a wedding. My sneakers and Ipod go with me everywhere when I’m traveling.
  7. One of my very favorite things to do is walk on the beach with Ulysses.
  8. I love essential oils. Synthetic fragrance gives me a headache, so I discovered essential oils. They’re so wonderful for so many things, and so much fun to play with. I make my own cleaning supplies with them, and scent my rooms with them.

Ulysses:

  1. I love music. All sorts of music. At an early age, I was more interested in the harmonic and melodic relationships between the notes and sounds I was hearing than who the music was actually created by. So, I was sometimes the odd man out when everyone else wanted to listen to R&B or pop (although I liked these as well) while I may have been more interested in Beethoven and Rimsky-Korsakov. I even taught myself to play the piano to a degree. I wrote and sang a song for Jenni on our wedding day.
  2. I’m a huge astronomy nut. In fact, I wanted to go to school for astronomy. My life took a different turn, but I’ve always maintained my love for the stars. One of the most moving astronomical events was seeing the aurora borealis for the first time during a solar storm so powerful that the Northern Lights were visible from my area of NY, a very rare occurrence! Footnote: One of Jenni’s first anniversary gifts to me was something I still hold dear — a big red Newtonian reflector telescope. You could say she gave me the gift of astronomy again.
  3. Spanish food. Love it! Rice, beans, enchiladas, sopopillas, and almost anything else. My latest obsession is sofrito for flavoring (thanks to a beautiful friend who made us a large batch large to last the entire winter!). I put it on everything, breakfast, lunch and dinner! YUMM!
  4. I never had a pet of my own while growing up. But Jenni wants me to mention that I had a “pet” jumping spider; I maintain she was NOT a pet. She had no name, and I wasn’t emotionally attached to her. I did find her… fascinating. I’ve always been interested in the natural sciences and unusual creatures, and spiders are about as interesting as you can get in the world of tiny creatures. Jumping spiders would almost convince you they had some degree of intelligence. Like I said, she was NOT a pet. But I’ll admit it was a happy day when she spun an egg sack after I found her a “boyfriend”. Don’t ask.
  5. I’m a huge fan of the old Star Trek series. And Shatner! No one does it like William Shatner. His legendary acting abilities are so over-the-top that it’s a thing of beauty to watch him take charge in a scene. Hilarity aside, the lofty goals of that show are similar to those of many who harbor a positive view of the future.
  6. I’m from LA. But not *that* LA. I actually mean Louisiana. That’s right, the southern home of New Orleans, jazz, and Cajun cooking.
  7. I think I was about 20 years old when I rode my first roller coaster, while visiting Disneyland with some friends who wanted to ride Space Mountain. After proudly telling a few other friends of my accomplishment, several told me Space Mountain didn’t qualify as a roller coaster. I’ve neither found a new roller coaster to ride, nor have I been on Space Mountain again.
  8. I’ve read a ton of books by Edgar Rice Burroughs, author of the Tarzan books. If you’ve only seen movies and cartoons, do yourself a favor and go find the ORIGINAL Tarzan books and check them out. They don’t write them like this anymore. And for bonus points, read Burroughs’ “John Carter of Mars” series of books.

So that’s it! More than you ever wanted to know, right? :) Now I get to tag 8 others:

Announcing our new Portrait Gallery!

Portrait GalleryWe’ve recently made an addition to our website, and we wanted to share it with all of you. Although we still specialize primarily in weddings, we’ve been getting more and more portrait requests from our past wedding clients. They’ve been calling us back as their families begin to expand for maternity and baby portraits (which thrills us!) , or when their whole family is in town to get some special family portraits. We love continuing our relationship with them and seeing them again!

To reflect the direction our photography has been taking us, we decided to add a “Portrait” Gallery to our main site. We filled it with a few of our favorites to give you an idea of the kind of portraiture we love, and we think you’ll enjoy them as much as we do. Check it out, and please let others know who might enjoy our style of photography. If you’re a past wedding client, we really hope to see you again soon!

More from Annie & Jason:

Alexander’s 4-month Session

Alexander @ 4 months (#52)Yesterday was the second portrait session for little Alex, in what will be a series of sessions over his first year of life.

This little guy is a star!! He did exactly what we asked, as if he could totally understand our direction throughout the whole shoot. We got tons of smiles, and we did lots of laughing ourselves! We thoroughly enjoyed watching Jesyca & Bill’s delight in their beautiful little boy.

At the end of the session, they mentioned that Bill had a special tattoo created, featuring Alex’s actual little handprints. Of course, we had to do something special with that! Right on cue, Alex turned on the intensity… isn’t he amazing?

Enjoy this preview - the whole gallery will be available soon in the “Clients Proofs” area of our main site.

Jill & Adam’s Wedding

We’ve been looking forward to Jill and Adam’s destination wedding for a long time. First of all, they are such a great couple - fun and energetic, totally in love, and not afraid to show it. On top of that, it was the week of our own 18th wedding anniversary, so a getaway to Sheldrake Point Vineyards, in the Finger Lakes region of NY, was a perfect escape for us in the middle of our most intensely busy season. It is such a beautiful area and an incredibly romantic setting for a wedding. The rain stopped just in time for their outdoor ceremony at the winery, with views of the vineyards behind them, and Cayuga Lake in front. There was hardly a dry eye at their ceremony. Afterward, we spent some private time with Jill and Adam for pictures by the water and in the vineyard. Of course, the sun even came out just when we needed it. :)

After a fun night of celebration with their families and friends, Jill and Adam were up again bright and early for a “morning-after” session with us! The plan was to go to a gorgeous nearby waterfall, but it was pouring once again. Jill put her gown back on, and Adam his tux pants, and we decided to start shooting inside the hotel instead. When we checked a few minutes later, the rain had stopped, so we raced out to the waterfall. Because of the rain from the past 24 hours, we not only had the waterfall all to ourselves, but we had a beautifully roaring waterfall! We couldn’t have planned it better. :)

With both of them very comfortable in front of television cameras as part of their work, and Jill having some modeling experience, they were willing to do anything we asked. We got some absolutely incredible pictures around (and in!) the falls. We can’t wait for them to see the breathtaking results!! For now, here is a sneak peak at their photos. Just click on the PLAY button (Play button) to start the show.

Jill and Adam, thank you so much for your complete trust, for the romantic table for two and amazing meal during our “anniversary week”, and for truly treating us like family.

Their proof gallery will be available soon in the “Client Proofs” area our main website. Please feel free to leave a comment on the pictures or send your thoughts for Jill and Adam by clicking on he “Comments” link below.
